Sherman Number Location document available
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

well, now a full Sherman walkaround will take ages Mr. Green

Beside that, I visited again the M4A1(76) located near Nancy, France.
Here are the pics I've done in 2007, not very detailed :

http://the.shadock.free.fr/Tanks_in_France/sherman_nancy/index.html

Here are the pictures I took last week-end :

Turret roof cast number

Gearbox cast number

Turret side cast number

Hull rear side stamped number (factory sequence)

Location of the factory sequence on the side

General view

Yes, excellent! Kurt, to decode the foundry abbreviations should we still refer to your ShermanRegister page, or has that been superseded?

Thanks P-O!

I have a checklist of Sherman features that is about a dozen pages long. Including time for the "mandatory" photos, I budget one hour each to visit them, but when it is cold and rainy I've done it much more quickly! Smile

My first approximation is that this is the 5135th M4A1 built by Pressed Steel Car. That corresponds to SN 52154, RN 3084751, more or less, because the relationship between build and serial numbers diverged the more tanks were built.

Thanks again!
