Help/Pics Needed - Thunderjet Park, Alexandria, LA
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Some vehicles I am looking for for the USA AFV Register. I am particularly curious about this one - I have 2 historical references to this piece - but cant find anything contemporary... Pics needed & additional info welcome:

Thunderjet Park
M19 USA out? Reported in 1968 & 1973

(First reported by John Gerard, “On Display in Central and Southwest Louisiana,” AFV News (Preston, ON: The AFV Association), Vol. 3, No. 6 (November 1968), 10. Also reported by Dinackus c1973 (7/2008).)

Thanks!

Neil

Neil, I know John Gerard. I will ask him at our next modeller's meeting (he is a very good modeller) and ask him where this park is and take a road trip there.

Having family in Alex, I have traveled thru/visited from time to time, since the early 60's.

The only thing that comes to mind is the old entrance road to England AFB, where they had several wingie-thingies on display. England AFB closed in the early 90's & is now the regional airport as I recall.

Unless it is located in Pineville at Camp Beauregard ?

Otherwise clueless
Don

Don, I spent a lot of time at Beauregard and don't remember any tanks on display. You are right about England AFB. Guess I will have to wait for John.

Neil, I talked with John this past weekend. He remembers the article in AFV News. Said that sure was a blast from the past! He is going to search through his files and give me all info he collected back then to include pics. I will be seeing him about 2 weeks from now. I hope I find many helpful pics.

The static displays at the Former England AFB are still there they are all aircraft though related to the 23rd "flying tigers"...well they were still there a year and a half ago...

The Armored vehicles are at Camp Beauregard and they just re-did the gate and entrance area but the statics are just to the east of the gate they had a large park with everything from dozers to tanks, jeeps, planes...etc. They just moved things around a bit but it is all still there... It is just west of the LA Maneuvers Museum on the National Guard camp...

The only photos I have are from prior to the re-organization...

The other cool find out that way is the Esler Airport which has an old AAA Searchlight in front of the main building...

Inaddition to the little 5 ID tank park on Fort Polk...but haven't seen that in about two years...

Neil, I haven't been home in a while. I have talked with John and maybe on my days off, he and I will do a road trip to Alexandria. I don't want to push him, he is sort of a free spirit and is semi-retired. Laughing
