Wake Island, 1986
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Not sure if I ever posted this before....

I was on a det to Wake back in '86. Wandering around the island I ran across a junkyard near the East end of the island (near POW rock I think). Anyway, this was laying in the surf. One of the Air Force guys stationed there said it was Japanese. I didn't think they had armor there during the occupation...or did they? Mainly it was the turret that caught my eye...the rest was a real mess!

I never heard of any armor during the occupation period, and by the way the island was held by the Japanese until 1945. So who knows. It could always just be junk that was accumulated there.
