The City of Memphis has an old Confederate Fort, facing the river front that is appropriately called, Confederate Park. It had 6 Confederate cannon in it.

During WW2 they used to run scrap metal drives. They donated them in one of the metal drives. As a thank you, after the war the DOD gave the City 2 37mm, 2 57mm, and 2 3" anti-tank cannons to take the place of the Confederate cannon that we donated. I remember going downtown all my life and checking out those things.

They are now missing. And after repeated calls to the Park Commission, I cannot get an answer as to where they are.

Below is a email I received from Andy Wise at Channel 5 after Robert, and I both emailed them. It took the media to get them moving. I am going to make an effort to contact her, and set up a meeting where I can see them, and offer our groups in any way we can. I’ll keep you posted as to what is happening.

I sent an email to everyone in the group, and posted in several forums about this. Not sure how many called but I want to thank everyone who called they, or sent emails.

The cannons are not missing. The Park Services Division has possession of the cannons. I don't know who they talked to, it seemed to me that everyone knew we had possession as we are receiving quite a few suggestions or requests by various groups as to what should be done with them. If this gentleman would like to see them, I would be happy to arrange that next week so he can feel that they are being handled appropriately. We had a person with knowledge of military weaponry take look and he confirmed they were WWII and he identified the specific serial numbers and is doing more research to determine other details such as manufacturer. I looked at the TACOM property list and they have nothing listed for Memphis, that means nothing but they might not be much help.
