The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

That M60A1 was the first tank in Kuwait City during Desert Storm IIRC.

Hopefully she'll be displayed like the others in the future.

T-72

Interesting - its looks like one of the pre-production versions of the Asad Babyl - there were probably only three of these made...

This one at Quantico seems to be in better condition, not the same one?

I seriously doubt they are the same tank.

Chris

I forwarded your photo of the M60A1 to 'an informed source' on USMC tanks and this was his response:

She is Geneses II, C company's HQ tank commanded by Capt Ed Dunlap, 3rd Tank Battalion, pulled from the MPF at Diego Garcia, 1990. I know her personally and smoked many a cigar with Ed on her back deck during Desert Shield & Storm

Thought you'd be interested.

Don

Cool, Don! Thanks for the info!

A couple of more pics of the T-72 for those interested:

Chris, would you mind if I added these pictures to the Quantico entry on PreservedTanks.com, like I did with SuperTsar's photos? As part of the credit I'll add a link with each photo to toadmanstankpictures.com.

Hi Trevor,
Sure, no problem!

Done, photo's added:

Quantico

I've also added the information provided by Don, Jim and Joe so, guys, let me know if I've got any of it wrong. I try to record everything I can about tanks in the database. I also did some extra research and found out about Tamiya's model of Genesis II, and added a picture of the box art. I'm planning to do a bit more on this collection soon (particularly those now on display inside) - I'll post here when it's done.
