T28 Rediscovered (1974)
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

The above photo is of the T28 Super Heavy as it was discovered 'in the bushes'.

Here are a few photos, dated 9 Dec 1974:

It was 'lost' at FT Belvoir VA. The bushes probably grew up around where it was parked.

Post subject: Re: T28 Rediscovered (1974)

It probably got taken by LCU from Aberdeen down to Belvoir to do some compatability tests with bridging equipment etc. After the tests were over it got parked in the Engineering Course field training area. Eventually it became part of the sceneray and was forgotten about.

Flash forward 20 some years and a fairly new base commander is flying over the area in a helicopter and notices a big OD thing in the bushes and asks his staff about it after he lands. Embarrassed staff wonders what the heck the General is talking about and goes out into the boonies to find out.

I believe Aberdeen was asked if they wanted it and turned it down. The Patton Museum came up with the budget to ship it to Kentucky

(Someone here can probably dig out the articles that I believe were posted here a while back with all the details)

This thread refers to the "missing link" for Belvoir based on a 1951 photo of the T28...

Unfortunately we lost my transcribing of the original "T-28 exists" article from AFV News in the great AFV News Board backup catastrophe... I'll have to post it again sometime - its now in a box somewhere...

For those who are too young to remember - all the experts had written that there were two T28 pilots, with one being destroyed in a fire and the other scrapped. All of a sudden there is this article in a funny little publication from Canada that says there is a T28 hiding in the foliage at Belvoir! I can still hope that we might find a US "Leaflet" CDL tank laying around somewhere Smile

I have compiled a fairly indepth time line based off of all the Official photos that I have been able to locate. These 1974 photos help to fill in a few of the gaps that exist.

BUT much is still unknown to be dug up, with the rediscovery of 'buried' documentation.

Another 'lost cause' that I have sort of clung to.

Lets see, theres the Ontos, the T95, & the T28..... Wink

I'm just wondering why I can't pick an easy subject.... Rolling Eyes

Try the Morris-Martel one man tanks. I have a couple of track-links, sprocket and two road-wheels and I have been trying to find original manufacturers drawings (or something similar) for years so I can recreate one. But no luck so far.
