Looking for older photos of Knox's PZ III F
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

My pictures of the FK Pz IIIs are here:

preservedtanks.com/Typ...Select=127

I've got more so if they could be useful let me know and I'll upload them asap.

They are now uploaded. There weren't as many as I'd hoped, just 3 more of the Pz III outside:

preservedtanks.com/Pro...Select=127

and 1 more of the one inside:

preservedtanks.com/Pro...Select=127

Anyway, I can see there have been some other goods ones posted since in this thread.

Roger, A-109E - would you guys mind if I uploaded your pics to PreservedTanks.com? With full credit of course. They get arranged by date - in a sort of time-machine view - so between us we'd provide a pretty thorough coverage of these tanks, history-wise.

Be my guest. You may want to run my pics through your favo(u)rite photo processing program to take out the bluish cast. The originals were shot on Ectachrome color transparency film which fades away into the blues in, oh, 50 years or so. Can't depend on anything anymore...... Rolling Eyes

Bad news, Bob...same thing happens with print negatives, which is why I mostly scan old (preserved) prints.

Just finished a project for a book wherein I got to doctor photos from about 200 contributors.

It was just pointed out to me that this tank has had it's lead support roller (#1) moved forward as in a later H version-it must have been done during it's retro-fit. I imagine it had something to due to now having 40cm track.

Thanks Bob, done:

Fort Knox Pz IIT (UID 105)

I spent an hour or so reducing the blue cast on the photos with PhotoShop and I think I got most of it out.

As I say on that page, it's actually just on the right-hand side - I don't know what the particular reason for that would be.

I wonder if they had a problem with the tracks slapping the botton of the fenders at high speed?
I'm sorry to say that I missed it on your site.

You may be right about 'track slap' - Walter Spielberger in AFV/Weapons Profile 2: Panzer III says '...the spacing of the return rollers was increased to give better support to the heavier track.' but that's a bit vague. Why you would move the roller only on one side, though, I can't imagine.

You're very welcome - let me know if you want to use a different title (e.g. Bob 'A-109E' Steinbrunn or other variation), or you have a website you'd like me to link to. And, of course, if you have other photos I'll gladly give them a home.

Meanwhile, only slightly OT since it concerns a Pz III not at Fort Knox, I have been very kindly sent a picture of the Pz III in Copenhagen, a tank for which I didn't previously have any picture:

Denmark Pz III (UID114)

My thanks go to Frank von Forhud - I pointed him at this forum, and I believe he has starting posting here - so Frank, welcome aboard!

Finally, as mentioned in the Hummel thread, I have starting uploading the remainder of my Fort Knox photos. In the last 48 hours I have added about 50, covering the German vehicles (this applies to pretty much any one that indicates it has more than one photo, including the MBT70s / Kampfpanzer 70s) plus I have added the XM803:

Back OT, I have updated both Fort Knox Pz III's with Don's pictures:

Fort Knox Pz III (UID105)

Fort Knox Pz III (UID106)

That's there too - I guessed 1960 so it's at the bottom of the page, but maybe I'm miles out.

Was UID105 stripped for the long barrelled IIIF?
