The Netherlands AFV Registers
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Hello to all
I'm new here and I have allready a question
Hope someone can help
In 2001 I took a picture of a Sherman tank at the Arnhem 40-45 Museum. See here foto-uploaden.nl/zie/j83ydy6
Can Anyone tell me where this Sherman is today ?
I heard a story that it could be in England with Kevin Wheatcroft.

Walter

I visited the Arnhem 40-45 museum in 2008, and didn't see this M4A1E8..

Hi Pierre-Olivier
That's correct. The Sherman disappeared short after 2001.
At that time the Sherman and the T-34 where standing beside the museum ,with the guns pointed to the road. And the neighbour living opposite was a Doctor who protested that the tanks were illegely there.
So they moved the T-34 in front of the building and the Sherman was sold.
That was in the newspaper back then.

Hi Walter,

good to have another Dutchmen around Cool

Correct this Sherman has been sold to the UK
However I cann't tell you when this was, or to who it has been sold

I tried to find it on Trevor's AFV register ( www.afvregister.org ) in the UK, however I could not find it.
Perhaps Lesley will know, he's the one who told me that this Sherman was sold to the UK

How are they doing at the msueum with the restoration of the other Sherman and the Staghound?
When I visited the place in 2008 the hull of both where painted in red primer
The remaining parts where scattered around the place

Michel

Well,

Kevin Wheatcroft owns an (apparently) running M4A1E8. The beast was clearly recently repainted, and maybe restored (it is not known if the tank was already running when Kevin bought it).

It's hard to tell if Arnhem's M4A1E8 was bought by Kevin Wheatcroft, then repaired and repainted, but it is not impossible.

I tried to find it on Trevor's AFV register ( www.afvregister.org ) in the UK, however I could not find it.

That's Tichenor's site - for vehicles in the UK my link would be:

Preserved Tanks in Britain

but I'm not familiar with this tank so I can't add anything to this discussion.

No, it was a typo on my side, sorry

Right now I am on the road for the whole gig, and don't have the data to give you the exact r/n. Will be back home during the weekend.

If I forget to post, please remind me Wink
