Ordnance Museum Updates
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

$30 Million. I don't think any proposal at Aberdeen was ever that much

Well, the Bovington Tank Museum got about the same amount of money from the Heritage Lottery Fund for their new building - although when I first heard about that my thought was "the rich getting richer."

I doubt the new Ordnance Museum will be quite so snazzy or modern, but its long overdue regardless.

Did Bovington get that much? Gosh. Today I saw an Abbot for sale for £5000 and thought - now I can afford to start a tank museum! Maybe I'll think again.

by the way, what's this tank? I can't recognize it, using Neil's list..
It has rubber tracks and M3 Lee/early M7 Priest bogies/running gear.

Hi,

I don't know the answer, but the height and way the cover bulges looks right for a Lee, an M3A1 based on the curve at the top of the sides.

well, it's indeed the M3A1 Lee "Lu Lu Belle", which seems to be part of the trip too. Another tank that is not on Neil's list but is shown on the photo gallery is the M18 Hellcat.

I'll have to recheck my pics, but this appears to indicate these two parade ground vehicles are being stored somewhere separately from the rest at Fort Lee...

Well the Parade ground is very empty, I think the T114 is the only thing left. And it wouldn't actually be an M18 but a T series with a 105mm howitzer instead of a 76mm

The parade ground did have a T70 pilot for the M18 Hellcat tank destroyer. The T88 105mm HMC variant was originally stored in the fenced off lot with the motorpool vehicles.

You're probably right. I shouldn't trust my memory since they had to move things around
