Obsolete US Armor insignias
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

"The insignia approved in 1917 was not well received and a new design was announced for the Tank Corps...."

Interesting stuff, Mark, thanks for posting.

Wasn't the last one also used as one of the OPFOR insignia at NTC for a while? I have one like that somewhere around here (still packed) I got when I visited with Jeff Button.

These are the OPFOR insignia for Armor.

Brass was worn on Beret. We also wore our rank (US in Brass) with a red star, order of precedence was Rank, Star, Tank.

The subdued tank was worn on our uniform collar with an OD green epaulet. For special duty/parade we wore the brass tank with black epaulet. This was when we still used dyed versions of the OG106 uniform with unique shoulder boards for rank.

Of course none of those insignia are actually Mk VIII Liberty tanks - closer to Mk IVs...
