Sherman details website
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

http://the.shadock.free.fr/sherman_minutia/index.html

This website is intended to show the variety of models/variants for a same item that can be seem on Sherman tanks (i.e. different engine deck plates that can be found on different Sherman versions, different roadwheels on a same tank).

This is a first attempt, I would be glad to get some backup on the layout and quality of content.

thanks

Pierre-Olivier

please do.

In the next fex days, I'll probably develop a page showing the various mantlets that can be found, and another one with the front hull, particularly showing the hatches.
The aim of this website is to be exhaustive, so if anything is missing, I would like to add it (and I'm sure there are many things missing yet !!)

Great work,

Oliver Missing put together a number of graphic illustrations of M4 VVSS suspension components a number of years back.

www.o5m6.de/vvss.html

The page may or may not be of interest. I am just glad this type of nuts and bolts information is being published. I keep waiting for the MMiR "Son of Sherman" book, but I guess that may never come...

Best Regards,

An excellent idea! One thing though, the R-975 engine pictured is a Hellcat engine looks a little different to a Sherman installation.

what do you have? I'm looking for more pictures of the General Motors 6046 (M4A2) and the Ford GAA V8 (M4A3) engines, especially from the sides that can't be seen on the engines page.

I didn't know that there were so many sprocket variants, thanks for the information !!
Did anybody ever see this one on a Sherman tank?

Thanks Adrian, I do have some Sherman installation pictures and will replace these with the others.
I put some of your Chrysler Multibank engine pictures on my website without asking you, and agree that you don't mind. I would also use some pictures showing the DV slots very soon. Thanks again for sharing !!

I'm currently gathering hull hatches pictures and also add-on (appliqué) armour photos.

Hi P-O

concerning the General Motors 6046, I have not to many picture's
From the Ford GAA engine there are about 10

I have uploaded them all of these 2 engine's to photobucket
If you see something you want to use, let me know.
Then I will send you the big original

s1015.photobucket.com/...an%20tank/

Also there will be an militaria show at Overloon on May 16th, so if there is time left I could try to get some more picture's

Also picture's present of various type's of track, sprockets, roadwheels, duckbill end connectors, welded on armour, etc

I also have some picture's of the underside of the M4A4 at Overloon

Michel

Michel,

thanks for the engines pictures, I think that for now I have what I need.
IMO 2 pictures are enough to show how the engine looks.

What I need now is good photos of the Direct Vision blocks and hull front hatches of the early M4A4.
(should do a "wish list" page on the site)...

I only have 1 picture showing all the tank..

thanks

P-O

New section, with driver's and co-driver's hoods and hatches.
What could be added to this?

Hello,

these engine decks seems quite strange to me, are they usual on "early" M4A3(75)s? Are they specific of a particular manufacturer? Who could tell me more about these?

thanks

Pierre-Olivier

Hi P-O

I was checking youre Sherman detail site and found something for the HVSS page
Both M4A3E8 105mm Sherman at Overloon have an sprocket like in the picture

This feature is not something typical for the 105
Both the M4A1E8(76)W at Amersfoort and the one at Best have the same type of sprocket

However the M4 at Best has it only on the right side Mr. Green
Because on the left side sprocket

Apperently all 3 different type's of sprocket can be found

Michel

Just a side note
The sprocket of all the Shermies was in fact multipart, that is the drum (wider with the HVSS of course) and the toothed rings (of varied makes) that wore down with use and had to be changed, with whatever model was on hand as all were interchangeable HTH
