Armor Conference 2010 (End of an Era)
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

This is to be the final Armor Conference from Ft Knox. Crying or Very sad

I figured I would try to highlight some of the more interesting exhibits

Set up has begun and the Patton Museum is making its final appearence as 'The Museum of Cavalry & Armor' with the display of the restored Sd Kfz 251/9.

The recently restored vehicle began its trip on Friday, by being loaded on the HETT:

Then it was placed in its display location for the event.

I will post more as the week goes on. Stay tuned

Regards
Don

Don,
Did you not feel yourself in mortal danger being that close to a "wheeled death trap"?! Shocked

Actually I sorta like the Stryker. The whole common chassis concept has 'won me over'.

Besides, if this will assist the dissappearence of the 'SPARKY-MOBILE', the world will be that much better. (ha ha ha)

Yeah, I wish the Army was going the common chassis direction for the new Ground Combat Vehicle - which by all open evidence is going to be a stovepiped one-off IFV that they will need to do a lot of recurring R&D on to make it the basis of anything else... Its like Army has forgotten all of the lessons learned from 1980-2000 just because of the new "lessons" from FCS.

As a result more than half of the $ that was going to deliver 8 variants of Manned Ground Vehicles will deliver just an IFV, and the remaining $ will somehow have to be used to replace the Paladin that needs replacing even worse than the Bradley, and for any future Recce, Direct Fire vehicles, etc...

I like the slave receptacle being next to the tail light which is also next to the batteries. With this set-up a driver could remain buttoned up and still get slaved. I guess this would be good if being shot at. I wonder what the box is underneath it. Thanks for fotos Don!

The lower box has a 'J' box in it. You can use the long extension hand mike or even a CVC. Its tied into the intercom system.
