The Netherlands AFV Registers
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

I like the way they're portraying the loading/offloading of a tank transporter but the gun isn't in travel lock, or even elevated, but is poised to penetrate the cab of the tractor. Wink

Can someone tell me if this is a different type of the M47,
because it has not the typical muzzlebreak
This tank was in 2007 at the entrance of the museum in Best.
But since 2008 it is gone. ( I don't know where it is now )

Hi folks,

while searching for info for the NLD AFV reg I came across this page
text is Dutch only, however google translate make's an fair translation of it

www.roermond1939-1945....mitstart=1

Very short: in 1959 during rebuilding of an bridge near Roermond the workers dicovered an tank
After salvage of the tank it turned out to be an Panther Ausf G that belonged to the Panzer Brigade 107 that had dropped into the river while trying to ferry across during operation Market Garden

Who know's what happened to this vehicle?

Was is sold, scrapped, put in storage, etc

Michel

A local iron Monger took the tank and scrapped it.

Hi folks,

I need some help with ID
This weekend there was an military show called Santa Fe

And one of the groups participating brought along an M4A3E8 Sherman and this one is some of an riddle to me

They are still restoring the vehicle, so some items are missing like the gun tube, etc

However these are my questions:
- this M4A3E8 seems to be fitted with an 75mm turret instead of the normal 76mm or 105mm. Is this even an real configuration?

- what are the 2 big brackets at the lower hull?

front side

rear end

The turret does not seam to be original, there are traces of shell fragments and bullets

No it merely means that the vehicle had a new barrel fitted near the end of its life and only M47 barrels were available at that time.

Isn't that an M4A2E8 hull?

I seem to see the rear engine access door, which makes it an M4A3. Anyway the engine hatches and rear splash/fuel cap guard are M4A3 ones.

M2 dozer kit mounting points?

like the one at the A.A.F. Tank Museum Confused

That would make it an very special one, because according the AAF site there where only 50 Sherman's build with an M2 dozer blade

Hi folks,

I made an close-up picture of the bracket's welded on to the lower hull

As you can see, the brackets are very rigid and are extending over the hull belly plate

If these are mounting points for an M2 dozer blade, who is the guy to confirm this Confused

Hi Michel,

I was there too visiting some reenactor friends. I came away with a rusty, dug-up Panzer 4 track link from one of the militaria stalls. Checking it out I learnt that there were 2 types of track for the Panzer 4, 38cm and 40cm and that this was the earlier 38cm type. Doing a little bit of research has kept me amused for hours but completely mystifyed my boys!!

Tim,
