Bergepanther at WTS Koblenz
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Here are three pictures of the Bergepanther owned by the Wehrtechnische Studiensammlung at Koblenz in Germany.

First, a picture of it when it was recovered :

Then, a picture of the same vehicle being restored at an army facility in Darmstadt (Germany), taken in June 2006 :

Last, a picture of the tank, yet fully restored (I doubt it is in running condition), and it is now stored either at the WTS Storage or the German Army facilities at Trier.. I really hope it will be on display at Sinsheim museum, Koblenz WTS or Munster Panzer museum soon :

There are more photos of this Bergepanther here, but you have to be registered to see it..

I don't know about the winch.. However I think that you may not expect this tank to recover your Panther if it goes off the road.. Cool

Saterday I visited the WTS, I saw that the Maybach HL 230 engine was missing.
I sent an e-mail and got an answer from Dr. Wirtgen, Leiter Wehrtechnische Studiensammlung.

The engine will be used in the Bergepanther!

Regards,
Wim.

I have been checking this and found some info on the German Panzer-Archiv forum

There is an wicnh for this Bergepanther, it came from the Bovington tank museum
On the forum is also an short history of this Bergepanther

I hope I got the translation right:

It was the for last Panther of the DaimlerBenz production plant in Berlin
There is an shot through the rearplate
It ended up in France, where it was used for testing land mines and has been standing around for an long time at Bourges, France
The spade at the rear was copied and rebuild at Rheinmetall, Germany

Wim,
Do you have a log of the vehicles you ''spotted'' at the WTS?

On the topic of surviving Bergpanthers.

I found photos of at least one Bergpanther in the US. I believe APG had one. Does anyone know where it went, if it is not 'hidden' at APG? (Neil...?)

The reason for this line of questioning, is I'm trying to confirm (or deny... ?) a possible second Bergpanther coming to the US in 1946.

Who knows, perhaps there is another survivor just sitting in 'the bushes' (somewhere close to here) waiting to be rediscovered.

Regards
Don

Sorry, my mistake, I've got the impression you were visiting APG, not Koblenz!
Have you seen the german 24 cm gun in Koblenz? That should be impressive. Are you touring Germany? Sinsheim and Munster are worth a visit as well.
