Panther, M60A1 and Grizzly interiors...
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Several weeks ago we had a visit from a panorama artist named Bruce Ecker. He shot several panorama's inside the buildings and most importantly shot the interiors of the Panther, M60A1 and Grizzly...The results are here:
nonplused.org/panos/mvtf/

He's done some pretty incredible work in spots that most people would never get to see..i.e. inside a nuclear containment vessel, missile sites, and the lower levels of the Pompanito submarine in San Francisco for example.

It would be impressive if it was possible to rotate around a single vehicle...

Dave

Absolutely fantastic.

Also a quick question. In the view of building 2, the German vehicles, in the background there is a German 120mm mortar. Any chance that you have more pictures of this, I have parts for one of these and have been collecting pictures and info for a couple of years.

Regards

The 120mm mortar is actually Chinese... Toadman has pictures of it here:

www.toadmanstankpictur...mortar.htm

I don't really know much about it, but it appears to be a copy of the German 120mm unit. Dave..

Don't understand.
Is it possible to move there, or only to rotate around fixed point?

Exactly, it would take a camera rig on a fixed track (and probably one that could spiral or step upwards) not to mention a metric buttload of exposures to rotate around a large fixed object without positional error. In effect, a slow-frame film camera rotating around the object.

The bandwidth requirements would be incredible at this level of resolution.

Did anyone else get a homesick sort of pang, spinning around that M60A1 turret? Talk about memories...and mostly good ones. Hadn't thought about being there for years, but that panorama just brought it all back.

Does anyone recall what the switchbox next to the light on the turret roof above the recoil pad was for? I saw it and I can't remember.

You mean this box Chuck,
Mystery Box Wink

She's missing the grenade launcher firing box, but has the arm box installed. Old girl is technically an M60A1 RISE/Passive, but is one of those converts from M60A1 AOS. She does not have the STAB Shut Off box in the loaders position above the canteen stowage bracket. A new RISE/Passive would along with the A3 models.

Most impressive work, and kinda eclipses my little device I've been working on, mono pod with base plate using the new Sony Cyber Shot panoramic view camera and a motor drive. Although I doubt my results would even come close to this.

BTW, brings back many fond memories too

I've been on that particular vehicle and slammed home one of those dummy rounds a few times. Mr. Green

I love that panoramic, even if that particular switchbox was not a part of my M60A1 time, since there wasn't such a thang. Razz

I just recently figured out that you can use the center mouse roller to zoom in and out while your panning around. The quality is amazing to me, these were all done with just the natural light coming in the open hatches.

If you get a chance, check out some of the other pano's on his site...I've spent hours panning around all of his work on the site. Dave

Yup, that's it. Now I remember it from the M60A3, which I spent much less time in. Since our M60A1s weren't all fancied up with all that hi-tec stuff like that, my mental picture didn't include that switch!

Anyone know what the cardboard boxes labled "S" and "B" are for to left of radio inside the Grizzly? I'm guessing maybe some of the photog's gear boxes that went un-noticed but maybe something else.
