The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Ist un fraulein! A Mainz AD rebuild in semi-rural North Carolina. Confirmed the SN is 3990M, RN is JJ01YJ (although the Y looks quite a bit like a V) Coordinates: 34.935544,-79.778557

Be nice if more of these SN's stood out like this.

Never seen the gun held down like this.

...and it so ruins the appearance of an otherwise well-kept display.

If they need to support it (and they probably did) they should have put something on the inside of the turret between the breech and the turret roof.

Maybe some important bits are missing.

I'll bet there is no breech or any psrts of the trunnon. Perhaps its only a guntube stuck in the manlet area for effect with no real interior mounting brackets.

it is a weird brace fabrication.

Rockingham huh,....should be near the former Nascar track, and not too far from Ft Bragg, as I recall. Drove thru town last in 2004.

Regards
Don

Nice pictures,

I see quite a few M60's have popped up since my hiatus,

I'll bet there is no breech or any psrts of the trunnon.

Naw, M60 EL Mechs were notorious for bleeding off in time. Everyone of these old girls kept the trunnion and breech assemblies that I've seen and IAW the demil manual was not necessary to remove them, being a lot of work. Most likely they welded her shut without bracing the gun internally and over time the tube dropped. The M60 in Little Rock AR has a similar brace. Bowling Green KY's M60 has the same problem but she's displayed with the tube fully depressed. All the hydraulic fluid is bled out so I just pushed the tube up and snapped a picture before it dropped. The Guns were balanced really well in the M60, having a slight forward weight.
