SN photo from right side. Above fender.

Is this a Ford built M4A3?

If so, am I correct that the Ordnance SN is CP6081 and the Ford SN is 102956?

Thanks!

SN from lower left transmission cover - near the bottom of the white 15.

Does this SN placement (S 65870) indicate a Fisher M4A3?

Thanks!

well, the SN corresponds to a Fisher M4A3(75)W, which was probably a VVSS tank. Most probably, the gearbox was removed from the M4A3(75) and placed on this M4A3E8.

Did you happen to see any 4.5" rocket launcher trailers while you were out there?

this is not a Ford-built M4A3.

The M4A3s built by Ford have a 57° glacis and protruding hoods with small hatches. This M4A3 has a 47° glacis with large hatches and no hoods.
(for more information have a look there : http://the.shadock.free.fr/sherman_minutia/sherman_types/m4a3.html)
The numbers you found don't seem to correspond to Sherman SNs.

The M4AE8 SN will be on the tow eyelets. That SN can be confirmed with the interior (drivers compartment) mounted data plate, or on the hull wall beneath the data plate mount area.

Those SNs you have are individual sub-component built SN's and not for the tank as a whole.

Regards
Don

Blackdog -

I saw no 4.5 launchers, but they did have a pair of M91 115mm launchers. Let me know if you want photos of those.

RE: Serial numbers - thanks for the education guys!!

Cheers!
