MO and IL Tanks
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Lastly, in an attempt to locate the alleged M114 somewhere in Alton, IL, I used street view in Googlemaps to try and get a hint at the different VFW and AL posts. We checked out a promising lead - a large, green object was vaguely visible in the rear lot of a VFW post. We trekked over and were startled to come across the very rare TR-64 - still in its camouflage markings!

Not much for armament, but I think its olfactory defenses are strong!!

Enjoy!

Concerning the M47 in MILLSTADT, IL

SNLG262 on the Italian dataplate is the reference to the Stock Number List, G262 is the number for the M47 Patton. It has nothing to do with the serial number.

Ps. as usual very nice pictures, thanks

That's a lot of M60s there Vagabond,

What's the story with the different things stamped on the tow lugs?

Good question. From you pictures it looks like she went through a refurbish during her life. The later model air cleaners are one indicator. One way to tell are by the torsion bar/arm housings. Early M60's had hex head torsion bar access plugs and a lighter casting. When rebuilt at Anniston they would sometimes replace those housings with the later heavier models which had square plugs. The SN 526 on the hull is a later stamp usually associated with rebuilding. That "69" is a mystery to me, since it's on the wrong lug to be a SN. Could be something they stamped while refurbishing, like a sequence number used to keep turrets and hulls together.

Are you implying that the FCS has an odor about it? Or are you just coming right out and saying it stinks? Either way, I'm not disagreeing...

Remember when we used to put out a specification, and then everyone showed up with their own concepts? You will have to talk really fast to convince me that the US Government is a better innovator than private industry!
