Nefarious goings on at the Swedish Army Museum!
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Nefarious goings on at the Swedish Army Museum!

I've just read a short article in the August edition of Classic Military Vehicles.
It reports that the engine & gear box from a Tiger II was leant to a third party in 2008, apparently a senior museum employee was bribed to do so.
The items were sold on to a UK collector for 35,000 Euros and when recovered, the gear box was without its contents, the engine likewise and wasn't even the one "leant", having had its serial number ground off and the Swedish Museum's engine's serial number stamped in its place.
The UK collector isn't named in the article and one wouldn't like to speculate as to who it may be.

I hope you don't take this personally, but I suggest you reflect about something:

1) You never posted here before. So you never established any reputation here
2) You aren't using your real name (many here do)

Considered the points above, and the content of your post, I tend to wonder about it...

I'm not familiar with the publication being referred to, but one should be careful about third party accusations, however cryptic. The thread title borders on being inflammatory.

What is the standing of "Classic Military Vehicles" among those more knowledgeable than I and is the author reputable enough to quote with attribution?

We want not to be a gossip column or rumor generator without verifiable sources, so please be careful. That's not the business of this forum.

It also is not an auspicious first posting from a new member...it might easily be interpreted as somebody with an axe to grind.

I have posted previously, my account disappeared, so I've re-signed up.
No axe to grind, CMV is a well-known UK publication, indeed it claims..
"Classic Military Vehicle is the best selling publication in the UK dedicated to the coverage of all historic military vehicles"
www.cmvmag.co.uk/
The article puzzled me quite a bit, as it states that the incident occured in 2008, but I can find no mention of it on the internet.

Sadly the whole story is true. I will translate the text first published in a very well reputed Swedish newspaper about a month ago and post it shortly. Somehow this past under my radar when published but I have new info coming in daily. That the engine and gearbox was on loan was a well known fact (something I've also posted about) but the later dealings ... I'm speechless Sad

Oh no need for apologies Massimo, it's an occurence that one doesn't want to think possible, however, with the ever-increasing value of WW2 era vehicles, especially Axis, it's something that's going to get more common.
