News from Ft Knox
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Many thanks Don,
I guess it appears to be a "new" M48A2 I didnt have listed before...

FYI, SN 6888 was previously also at Keyes Park.

Any luck with those convoy SNs?

I'm not sure yet, but once I do a physical confirmation (& photograph) then I'll know for sure on the exact number on the M48 series

AHHHHHH

I will get that some day, but between needing to corner the individual, and not getting sidetracked, ....... not yet.

The T29E3 is also to be moved to RMP. It was moved off the pad to the parking lot since too much would have been torn up if it had been moved to where the other vehicles are located.

Don

I have long been fascinated by the post-war US heavy tank series so this prompted me to start putting my Fort Knox heavy tanks online (before getting distracted by the APG Matilda) and that's now finished - T28, 2 x T29, T30, T34 and 2 x M103:

Preserved Tanks at Fort Knox

I'm working on FK in between other projects, but once I get the remaining tanks online I will aim to bring it all up to date (just in time to catch up on the BRAC changes).

Don, I've added your heavy tank photo's where I've found them - could I ask you to take a look and estimate dates for your T34 and M103 pictures (bottom of each page)?

UID 1275: T34 Heavy Tank

UID 1279: M103 Heavy Tank

Thanks.

Trevor

The T34 photo was taken in Richardson Motor Pool in May 2009. It is currently in the same location.

The M103A2 Photo was during the same time period, although I'm not sure of specific day/month.

What I can do, is do a reshoot of all the Heavy tanks on the same day. Currently the T29 & T30 are statically located infront of Marshall Hall. The T29E3, T34, T43, and M103A2 are located in RMP.

Just looking thru some fairly recent photo files, I found this for your Heavy Tank index.

The T29 Heavy Tank: (Photos taken in April 2010)

Wednesday 4 Aug Update:

The M1A1 (3ID), M31 ARV & M32 ARV have been removed from in front of the Museum, and are now sitting in Richardson Motor Pool.

Beside doing a bit of work on Cobra King with some excellent results, I was able to get some photos of various vehicles of interest as well as some interior stuff on a couple I haven't gotten before. I'll post some of that in other topics.

Neil, still nothing on the convoy SNs, as I wasn't able to get up to the museum.

Well, frankly - now that its already August 4 - I'm leaning towards waiting until Sept 7 to release the newest USA AFV Register so that I can reflect the official museum name change. Rather than putting out a mini-update a few weeks after releasing it...

Welcome to the madness....:)

The General George Patton Museum will remain at Ft Knox with an expanded mission. It will no longer be an 'Armor Museum'.

The National Armor & Cavalry Museum (as it is supposed to be called) will move to Ft Benning as part of the Armor Center. It will be an 'instructional support facility' of the Armor School. It will be housed in a complex that is yet to be built, with funds that don't seem to currently exist......

Armor for the Ages has been updated . . . again. In this update there are two new pages of recent work on Cobra King, one new page on the Panzer IV project, photos of a combat drop of a T30 heavy tank prototype in the Volunteer News section and the World War II Gallery in the Patton Museum Photo Tour section has two photos of the M7B2 Priest showing the new ammo stowage the staff has added in their continuing effort to make the vehicles in the museum more realistic.

The current director, Len Dyer, takes perverse pleasure in making changes/additions to the stowage on the vehicles which forces me to take new photos, but the vehicles have a more lived-in look and are presented better than they ever have in the 60 years of the museum's existence. IMHO.

Its all the in the FY11 Defense Budget Request under MILCON - as long as it gets passed without modification & signed...

What are the spoked bogie wheels that are going to be put on Cobra King? Here's P-O's compilation of examples:

well, as the roadwheels were exchanged with an M10 from the museum, it seems that the model will be this one :

here you can see the exchange :
