Ordnance Museum Data Plates #8: German Unknown
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

some ID for the plates

Linke-Hofmann Werke has been an manufacturer of railroad equipment, like steam locomotives

This plate looks like an plate that was attached to the operator cabin on the outside, just like to plate that can be found at US steam locomotives

concerning this plate

this plate give an short description of operating the winch of, according the text below, an SdKFZ 7/2

The 8ton German halftrack with the 37mm AA gun
However that information is not given at the plate

It only tells which gear, 1 or 2, and which RPM

the other plates will take more time

Neil,

My German leaves a little to be desired but this plate:

Holzvergaser = Wood Carburetor ? Could it be a data plate from those strange devices the German Army used to operate vehicles near the end of the war when fuel was rare? I remember seeing some articles where they operated some AFV's and other trucks in the rear/training using a device that heated wood and used the distilling s to run engines.

this plate belongs to an German halftrack, Demag D7P
The additonal P at the end makes it interesting, because the only Demag D7 halftrack I could find of that type is the armored version

So the SdKfz 250 series of halftrack
The P most likely means Panzer or armoured

the FAMO plates

the first is an problem
it only gives an mass of 900kg, build number and build year

The second bigger plate belongs to the FAMO halftrack, the Sdkfz 9

FAMO only made 1 vehicle that was fitted with "Gleisketten" or tracks
Also the 250hp and the size of the engine 10800cc or 10.8 liter would fit the description

It could be that both plates have belonged to the same vehicle
The smaller plate then could have been mounted onto the cargo deck, for example

the plate of Matra Werke is interesting, because it belongs to an tool
Not an vehicle of any kind

The Matra Werke in Frankfurt am Main is still there, making the same equipment like they did 60 years ago
Matra builds hydraulic operated tools mainly for car manufacturers
Like presses for lifting or metal plate cutting and stuff like that

the Hanomag plate
also belongs to an halftrack, the SdKfz 251 APC (can you call it like that Confused )
There is an load bearing for the "Ketten" or tracks given

The engine power of 100ps (PS is short for "pferdestarke" or horse power - HP) and the empty weight of the vehicle would also fit

The museum had several 251s - two basic 251s, one with a rocket launcher frame, a 251/16 Flamm PzW flamethrower vehicle, and a 251/8 7.5cm Gun Half-Track Kanonenwagen.

the Weserhutte plate

This plate is to general
Weserhutte was an metal machining company that build all kind of equipment
It could be in the range of armoured vehicles, artillery and other military equipment

The short "PMwg" most likely has some meaning, however I can not find it
Because there is no engine rating or load carrying capacity it could have belonged to an other type of military equipment or military tool

If you can provide my with the info that is located at the line "Typ u. baujahr" perhaps I can find more
This line gives the type and year of manufacturing

Perhaps with that info I can find to which it belonged

about the plate of FAUN

FAUN has been and still is an truck manufacturer
On the plate, amongst other, the load carrying capacity of the front, second and third axle is given

From the picture's it seams that 1 of the axle's is not marked so it would have been an truck with only 1 rear axle

I can not read all the other info, however there are fields for engine type, engine size, engine HP, empty weigt of the vehicle, and more information like that

Here are the Fahrgestall Numbers I was able to pull off the plates by increasing the size of the original images (Photobucket shrunk them some).

Hanomag 811184
Imbert-Koln Fabr Nr 32 6902
LHW 031921
Matra Fabr Nr 2
Seilwinde none
Weserhutte Fabr Nr 1
