T72 at CFB Borden, Canada
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. Attached are photos of the T72 on display on the Canadian Forces Base at Borden, Ontario, Canada. The first shows the tank at its' new location near the Canex store. The next 2 are closeup of numbers on the glacis. One is a plate welded on and is clearly readable. The other is of similar numbers stamped into the plate, but is very faint through the paint. Does anyone know if these are serial numbers that we could use to identify this particular vehicle?

Hello Alf,
The number on the second photo , was that on the location indicated below?
It seems the East Germans ''translated'' the cyrillic letters into ''latin'' and put a new plate over the cyrrillic number. Both numbers are the same. What was the location of the ''cyrillic'' number?

Thanks for the info!

The plate with the numbers on it is attached to the center front of the glacis. The Cyrillic numbers are stamped into the glacis just above the plate, near the cable clamp. Photo attached. Red arrow points to the plate.

Hello Alf,
That should indeed be the serialnumber. The G08 in the serial indicated it is a August 1977 built/assembled tank.

@Koluchiy; do you know what the 90 below the number means? Is this a year of modification or the 90th tank which had certain modifications?

Also, according to the info I have this is an T-72A ''early''. When was the pruduction ceased of th T-72 Ural and started the series production of the ''A''?

Regards,
Lesley

Anthony,

Are you claiming that Borden may not be painting their collection in appropriarte or accurate colour schemes? Like the gloss grey Jagdpanzer 38 and Flakpanzer Wirbelwind....?

Many years ago I was told in the Borden museum that that was colour they came in- all WWII German armour was Panzer Grey...
