Posting Photographs on the boards
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Posting Photographs on the boards

Hallo Gentleman of the "BIG IRONS",

Reason for my "intrusion" here as site Administrator, I have my occasional peek at some items you post as I also have a little weakspot for the "Tank stuff", what I recently noticed on multiple occasions is that the amount and number of pictures posted up is a. increasing in size and b. is increasing in numbers, now please understand me correct I do not have anything against you fella's posting photo's, on the contrary.

Alltough I must advise you, that our "official" policy is that we allow a maximum size of 800x600 for forum posts, if you have a bigger picture to show to your friends or share, that you then post a link for the full size one and post a smaller one for people to see, I ask you this as there are still quite a number of your members out there that unfortunatly are still "hung" on dial-up connections and with posting up these large images you are not making them happy, as this eats up a load of bandwith.

As example it could look like this :

full size photo => www.army.mil/-images/2...093911.jpg

In this way, the boards load quicker and it saves a little bit of space as well and you do not need to scroll for ages down the whole thread to be able to read the posts.

Also I see that "photo's" are copied multiple times in the same topic, I may presume when the "photo" is there that it will be visible as to what one is referring, so imho it does not need to be repeated tenfold, as this also makes the page times longer to load for the reader.

When "quoting" please take the image out or at least disable the html code for it so it doesn't display the same pic every time you quote some of your fellow posters.

When posting multiple photo's please limit the number to 10 per posting, and again nothing against posting pics just thinking of the dial-up members and also to keep the post "readable", so if you have let's say 50 pics, the post could look something like "Armour found part 1, part 2 etc." you also then get more oversight and when posting comments it is related to a smaller amount of photo's so imho the focus on the subject at hand is more pinpointed then when you would have the aforementioned 50 photo's in one post.

Also if you are not sure as how to, your forum moderators will assist you gladly to explain the how's and if's.

Just a thought for you all, thank you in advance for your co-operation and think about your fellow forum member that is grinding his teeth about the "long" loading times.

With Kindest Regards,

UPDATE:

We have a new feature on the forums that will automatically resize posted pictures. All pics including linked pics will be resized to 600px. However, the pics will be ClickAble to allow for full size viewing via a pop-up window. The pop-up window will display at 400px but can be resized to view a bigger pic.
