Hi,

This gal was found at the NC-ARNG NCO Academy on Ft Bragg a couple of years back (March 2008). It was in really good shape.

The front tow hook has Ser # 155 stamped in.

The rear deck has a different number (3087), which I'm suspicious of. The newness of the stamping, along with the rather high number (for a straight M60) strikes me oddly. I have a feeling this rear deck is not the original, and they mixed serials when they replaced it.

Yup.

There must be at least a few still around, because I recall that many (most? all?) of the M60A0s in my reserve unit (maybe 20 or so) still had them. Those tanks were among the last M60 and M60A1s in service when they went away in about 1989, and we were still firing and using them up to then. Since I doubt that the Army would have bothered to do anything at all with them after they were retired and they didn't toss them ALL in the ocean, I don't find it too remarkable that there are examples around.
