Post subject: firewood anyone?

just had to submit these 2 pics,,,,being a heavy equipment operator and a logger of many years this is like the greatest toy someone like myself could have.....
I have never seen one except for in pictures and to my knowledge this is still a concept machine and not a production unit but if you wanna see how big them squirells eyes can get,,,,,,,,go for a tromp through the toolies in this lil' guy...........

its a timberjack harvester concept machine,,,,,,can fall trees and process them and basically have minimal ground disturbance.....and looks like a cricket too boot........

I've seen this critter in action on the television. Similar concept, but maximum ground disturbance. Not for sure, but i think this apparatus even rips the bark off.

actually Sposta,,,I have run that same processor head on that pic you posted,,,that is a waratah head,,,this model does not have the vertical option for falling the trees,,,just mainly for processing,,,,,,,
,as for the de-barking you mentioned,,,,,they are not designed for that and removing the bark is actually a bad thing...these only take off the limbs and to buck to length, the rollers run the tree through the head and there is a saw ....this is assisted by a computer that is engaged by setting the saw as close to butt as possible,,,then activating the saw
(shave off as little as possible),,,then you will have pre-programned settings as per the mill specifications ....then its just a matter of punching in desired tree and size spec,,,,,,hitting your rollers with a little boost from jerking the machine in the direction and if all goes as planned the rollers will stop the tree at the exact spot so you can cut the log......

its a tricky process at first but after a day or so you can do it in your sleep. actually some will say a dangle-head processor is about the trickiest machine to run in the logging industry...in some ways I aggree with this,,,,,but those who say that also have never seen a high-lead grapple yarder yanking bunches of trees of a hillside...I would ssay this is the second trickiest machine to run.......just my personal opinion...but thanks for posting that pic,,,,kinda compares the regualar thing to the fancy unit I put up....

in the near future as mentioned in the JG300 public forum I intend on making a little movie thing of all sorts of logging machinery in action,,,,in and out of cab footage,,,,just happen to have some foootage of my dangle head I ran ...in action.....

Hoppa, you ever run across one of these signs while you're logging. Wink

AHHHH, the limbs! That's right. Now i remember.....it's been a while since I've seen the video.

That movie would be interesting to see. Looking forward to it.
