Accomodations near Bovington Tank Museum?
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Thanks Neil, I know Portsmouth's museums are cool. But my plan is for a full immersion, and I will not have more than 4-5 days. That would mean something around 5000 pictures. Barely enough to cover what's there Smile

Have you visited Bovington by train? Are taxis easily available at Wool or Wareham train stations?

Yes, there is a taxi service from the Wool station (I think its just one taxi/driver) and a bus. I missed the last bus from Bovington one time and they sent a driver to pick me up...

Well, it would be handy to have the different locations on the map (just like you did for Thun). But it's not that urgent, it will take a fw months at least

Thanks

Massimo

I've made a small start on this, adding those tanks immediately surrounding the museum (the first 4 in this list):

Location ID 3000: Bovington Tank Museum

I'm working on Bovington as a background task, and only making slow progress at present.

This is my current PreservedTanks entry for Bovington, it's pretty incomplete (only the World War I section is done so far) but I could start adding the locations of vehicles around Bovington to the map if it would be useful to you:

Location ID 3000: Bovington

The external Churchill Mk IV upgraded to Mk VI is a Churchill Mk 1

The Centurion experimental tank is the old milan missile target tank from Warminster IIRC

I have always stayed at the Black Bear hotel in Wareham, not far from the museum and a nice place to stay, food is good, so is the beer.

Of course - the front howitzer was a bit of a giveaway! I had lifted the text straight from my 1987 manuscript. Naturally, the Churchill outside the entrance is not the one that was there then... Anyway, I've fixed the entry and added the original one too (at the bottom of the page). Thanks.

I didn't know that, thanks. Corrected.
