'New' photos M48/M60A2 & V100 - Ft Knox
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Well thanks to 'Camo', I have been forwarded these images.

I last saw these vehicles in 2003/04 (no camera handy at that time...) and knew they existed.

Finally got some shots of them.

No SN data, unfortunately.

Don

Here are a few more photos of the same vehicles.

I guess my question is to the V100 'crowd'. What variant is this?

Don

Agreed. That is a Dragoon. Very close to the V100, probably more rare.

And that M60A2 is, of course, not an M60A2. It may not even be an M60A1E2.

From the angle, I have doubts about the geometry of the front glacis, is that possibly an early M48 hull with the A2 turret on it? All those track support rollers....not only does it not have CBSS bulge, it doesn't even have heat shield doors. This looks like a transplant.

The engine deck seems to me to scream M48, and for sure not an M60 variant. The turret seems to be vanilla A2 from the ventilator placement.

Where is JoeD? (he'll be SO disappointed that there are no air cleaners present Laughing )

I call "Frankentank".

Nevermind. I just noticed the thread title so you already know it's a "Frankentank". Rolling Eyes

See how frantic I get when I see "M60A2" in print. It's a learned neurosis.

EASY THERE DOUG...!!! ha ha ha

I first saw this tank in 2001/02 during an initial Op Noble Eagle (Homeland Defence) train up.

Its not a static 'queen' but an actively used 'stage prop' in the training area. Actually its pretty neat. It is hard wired to rotate and provide simulated direct fire. (notice the weird hoffman device on the end of the gun tube).

Its located by the the training area 'school' near the 'water tower'.

There is an M60 (A1..?) now located on the other side of the training area 'town', which is new to me. ( Are you getting this Neil..?) No info on that one.

Besides these vehicles, there are numerous Mortar Tracks located in different areas that make up the 'range', primarily in outlying clearings of wooded areas ('LZ' or 'drop zones')

Thanks for the clarification on the Dragoon 300. That has 'haunted' me for many years. Perhaps a new 'fixation' for the future... (like I really need another one..!?)

Regards
Don

Nice to see old "Frankentank" is being used,

Here is an image of her back from 1996 I took at Richardson Motor Pool.
