The Netherlands AFV Registers
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

How do you see that it is a Firefly turret?

You can't really see it in the picture above, a friend of mine saw it and noted it was a modified Firefly turret.

Michel,

Those fittings are there because this tank once was an M74 TRV. It was stripped of most of its TRV gear, and fitted with a Firefly turret. I understand it has been sold.

Hanno

Hanno,

thanks for that info
I only could find it at the site of the Aces group and an selling site
Accordig to that info it was still for sale

"One man's comma is another man's decimal point." Mr. Green

Maybe P-O can get it on grounds of a typo!

I don't think so
Using comma's for seperating of an thousand number is US style, in Europe we use an dot to seperate
And because P-O and I are in Europe we use the dot Mr. Green

Maybe does a shot from the other side of the turret help ?

Hi folks, I have an question for the US halftrack lovers

Last weekend I spotted an M16 MGMC, so far - so good

However this M16 is build on an M2 halftrack chassis, so with the track extending beyond the rear of the body
From the info I could find, all M16 should be converted M3 chassis, so with the rear of the body extending over the tracks

Could some one help me out Confused
If this is an real WW2 configuration and is the intell not correct, or is it an sort of restoration conversion

Michel

Post subject: Re: The Netherlands AFV Registers

found an up-date about the Sherman that is being restored for the Overloon monument

original Dutch version:
www.twenot-forums.nl/v...mp;t=23093

Translated section:

I am one of the people working on the project. It is indeed a Sherman E9. We are currently working on the tank to bring it back into the configuration of 1944, when they drove around Overloon. That is, we are removing the broadening blocks between hull and bogie sets. Besides the bogie sets, also of the tension wheel holders and sprocket wheels. The padding blocks are welded to the hull with using nickel / chromium welding and "easiest" way to remove them is gouge technique. Flame cutting and / or cutting is not an option. We also have to figure out how we have to remove the sprocket wheels. These are mounted with small tapered clamps rings onto the threaded ends. This is probably also an gouge job. Currently we have removed 4 bogie sets, the tower has been lifted and the interior is taken by the Dutch Army props committee (part of the army that takes care of museum vehicle's). They will reuse and re-producte parts for their projects, including a Sherman Dozer. Meanwhile we have already found a company that wil reproduce the 75mm barrel.
It had been easier to leave the E9 accessories intact, but we have chosen to restore the vehicle historically correct where possible.

well, as soon as the Sherman is restored, I plan to go back to Overloon to visit both this monument and the museum. That will be just fine..

How complicated is to reach Overloon with public transports?

It involves some plane, bus, train, bus hopping.

There is a low cost company flying from Bergamo to Eindhoven, from there on the bus to Eindhoven Central Station, then the train to Horst, next a bus to Venray and to finnish another bus to Overloon.

Another option is that we arange a second European meeting and someone of us waites for you at the airport. For me its 60 km to Eindhoven and 100km to Overloon, and I believe Michel Krauss also lives in the neighbourhood.

I have no problem investigating the plane trip. Bergamo is too far for me, but Milano Malpensa is well served and pretty cheap, I would just land in Amsterdam and take a train from there. What's Overloon's nearest train station?

Are accomodations available near Overloon? If yes, how far from the Museum? I see the collection is pretty large and would deserve more than just a quick visit.

Thanks

The nearest train station is Vierlingsbeek. That's about 5 km to the museum
But difficult to get a bus from there ( the middle of nowhere )
I took once a taxi to the train station
For accomodations there is also enough choice
see here www.gastvrijoverloon.n...ernachten/
It's in Dutch ,but feel free to ask in help for translations

Well, let us know if you are going to visit the location

yes, I live in the neighbourhood
It is just 125km directly to Overloon and if I stop at Eindhoven only 180km Wink

However, we will find an solution if the event will take place

Maybe something to keep in mind, for next year
The militrack event (the German halftracks, trucks, etc) at Overloon (may-2010) was organized together with the Dutch AFV modelling club, Twenot

Next year Twenot is 35 years old and they are planning an show at the Overloon museum
Rumour is that something like Militracks (or something like it) will be organized again, the show is planned for 15th of may 2011

Hi folks

an update about the Sherman M4A3E8 with the special fittings to the hull

This Sherman is for sale, because the owning reenactor group ACES do not have the storage facility or time to maintain the tank

Does some-one have 130.000 Euro at hand to buy an nice Sherman tank Mr. Green

Michel

This Sherman was indeed sold and has already crossed the Atlantic.

From the G104 mailing list:
>An M4A3E8 was brought in to the port of Newark last Thursday from the

>over and saw it today. It is Chrysler built, but I could only make out a 7

As stated before, please note this is a converted M74 TRV.

Hanno
