Source: Planes of Fame website

This video is just in from the flight of five P-38s (Glacier Girl, 23 Skidoo, Thoughts of Midnight, Ruff Stuff, and Honey Bunny) enroute from Planes of Fame Air Museum in Chino, CA to the California Capital Airshow in Sacramento, CA on September 11 – 12, 2010. Mixed in is some Heritage Flight footage of P-38s and an F-22 Raptor. This flight of the five P-38s was an historic event and the largest gathering of Lightnings in more than 50 years, 5 flew together of the 7 airworthy P-38s that survive today. View the video and enjoy a cockpit-eye-view of the flight!

Glad you enjoyed it. Smile
What the video didn't show was that 23 Skidoo had to make an unsceduled landing because of an oil leak.
They thought that the damage was pretty bad initially but it has already been fixed.

Glad you liked it Bushy. Smile The P-38 is one of my favorites too.

I've been to PoF a few times this year and I really wanted to be there when they left but I was not able to make it. Sad
That would have been an awesome sight to see in person.

I can't remember where I heard it was an oil leak so that may be wrong. There was a problem with an engine though.

Although they really wanted to and really tried to, the folks at Tillamook were not able to bring Tangerine down for the show. We still had high hopes for the remaining five flyable P?38s; however, as is always a possibility when dealing with classic warbirds, there was a problem. Five P?38s took off from Chino, but only four arrived in Sacramento. Alas, 23 Skidoo, had a mechanical failure on the way up and had to put down in Fresno -- safely, thank goodness! And fortunately Steve Hinton told us it turned out not to be as bad as they feared, and they were able to fix 23 Skidoo in time to make it over to Reno.

It's a shame that everyone couldn't make it. They should have had the CC group look at prior to take off, that way, it would have been fully stocked with *cough cough* "essentials. It still may not have made it, but the waiting for a mechanic would have been fun...
