The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

The Panthers at Saumur were previously 'gate guardians' at the Invalides and came directly from the Dompaire fight when 2e DB tamed a brand new PanzerBrigade (111-112??? I can never remember its number!).
They got their 2e DB marking (croix de Lorraine on map of France).

no, it it only restored for static display (outside). The engine and gearbox were removed and are now stored in the reserves, so that some parts could be used to keep the other Panther running.

Hi,

It's completely unrealistic. Too monotone and the details just don't 'pop'. It's a clean build, but the paint ruins the effect. They need to apply some filters to create variation in the tones, and to provide visual interest. It's also much too clean to be real. Maybe bend the fenders, and apply some dust and mud to the undercarriage. Some subtle battle damage would really raise the bar on this project...

[Oops...sorry there. I must have left a tab open to one of the modeling websites, and one of the self-annointed 'experts' Rolling Eyes opinions leaked through. I'll try to keep that from happening in the future.] Wink Razz

Happy New Year to all!

Is there anything more known about the WW2 history of this Panther, like picture's of the original vehicle Confused
All I could find is that it had belonged to the 112th Panzer Brigade and was captured by the 2ème Division Blindée
And that is about all I could find Neutral

There where remains of zimmerit at the hull, that was last (officialy) applied between September 1944 and October 1944
So the Panther has been build during that period or before that

Claude, can you confirm that both Panthers came from Dompaire? I have information that the other Les Invalides Panther (now at Mourmelon) came from Dompaire, but this is the first time I've heard it said about this Panther.

Hi all,

My name is Kent Wiik and I am new here from today.

Just to let you know that I in June 2009 pinpointed this Ausf G as #332 from 112 Panzer brigade:
www.network54.com/Foru...ar+vehicle

Sadly the photo has gone missing in that thread but here it is:
i34.tinypic.com/f9o2dy.jpg

Sad she want be coated with zimmerit and now when we know her numbers she will be made without.

Kind regards
Kent

Sorry, I overlooked your question

I found a copy of the original report in the 2e DB archival stuff kept in the French Archives in Vincennes - I have a photo of it somewhere in my HD.
The text explained that only 2 could be sent to Paris (where they went to the Invalides Museum, then to Saumur) because all the others were in too bad a shape.
