T17 Staghound Armoured Car Survivors
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

You have three Staghounds surviving in Denmark but none of the pictures seems to show?

Unless someone has dug one up recently - and I doubt that - there is only one surviving Staghound in Denmark, a Staghound III currently undergoing restauration at the Jutland Dragoons Historical Armour Association.

The Danish Army recieved 10 Staghound III in 1946/47 for the Danish occupation force in Germany. Another four turretless T17s were bought in 1949 for spare parts, but instead of being scrapped for spares, they were fixed up and put to use, probably as command cars and driver training vehicles.

The armoured cars delivered from England were struck from the army holdings in 1960 and either sold off or scrapped. Only one Staghound survived, being in the holdings of the Royal Arsenals Museum in Copenhagen were it was on display for many years. Later it ended up in the open-air museum at the Army Combat School in Oksbøl but recently is was taken into the care of the Jutland Dragoons Association.

Hello,

I'll start to work on the Staghound survivors PDF list this evening, and it will be published within few days.

Good job Pierre Olivier & Co Smile

I'm at but puzzled by the entry

T17E1 Staghound Mk III – Royal Canadian Artillery Museum
CFB Shilo, Manitoba (Canada)

The gun looks somewhat odd - is it a 6-pdr of some sort?

The MkIII did have a 6pdr, as to what that tube's supposed to be, heaven knows!
Oh, here's the "For Freedom Museum" Staghound.

Quite a few interesting exhibits, Beaverette (?), Biber, 38t, Sdkfz251 (OT810?)

The Staghound III only came with a 75mm gun, as far as I know?

Claus,

That is an old photo of the MkIII at Shilo. It had a stove pipe or some such item shoved in the turret to approximate a gun barrel when displayed in the old museum.

The stag is currently- or was last year- undergoing extensive restoration in the workshops at Shilo. Not sure whether that will include a real 75mm gun barrel however.

Who know where this Staghound pillbox came from?

panzermaus.blogspot.de...d-mk1.html

It is the Schaarsbergen example?

It's indeed the one from Schaarsbergen.

I just had a look in PO's file here: the.shadock.free.fr/Su...E1_T18.pdf

Judging by the photos it indeed is the same, so the entry "T17E1 Staghound wreck – Oorlogsmuseum 40-45, Arnhem (Netherlands)" and "T17E1 Staghound wreck – Airborne Garage, near Arnhem (Netherlands)" should be merged. Also, I would list it a "Staghound pillbox" rather than a "wreck".

Another addition/correction: the turret on the last page is not a Staghound but an M3 Grant turret.

Excellent work so far, just rying to help keeping the list up to date.

it's only thanks to the forums user's remarks that the lists are accurates. I often correct mistakes, as it is so complicated to get everything right, and at the right place.
