KV-1 - renovation works
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

What is that huge armored train to the side of the KV-1?
It looks like something out of the "Transformers" movies!

www.internationalsteam...ssia04.htm
A couple of railway guns there, the biggy is a 305mm, interesting quote in the text!
"This is a 305mm railway gun of the type (TM-3-12) also displayed at the St.Petersburg Outdoor Train Museum. It was only after I visited a small artillery museum on Suomenlinna Fortress in Helsinki Harbour that understood the supreme irony of the Russians displaying this gun at the Moscow Victory park. All 3 TM-3-12 guns were captured on the Hanko peninsula in 1941 and used by the Finns until 1944. So in fact they spent more time in Finnish active service in World War II than in Soviet service"

This one's a 180mm

About this "KV".
There is a proverbial in Russia: "I've made you from such details that I had at hands"...

As result, this "KV" is a strange hybrid...

Kolya, special for you: if you have correct spare parts from KV-1 - welcome Razz If not, don't start "Yaroslavna Cry" again.
Also - for first 100 KV-1S used hulls from KV-1, also rebuilding bases in WWII period make more misterious hybrids than museum KV. Typical examples of work - KV-2 with non-standart additions and with late roadwheels in Central Army Museum and SU-152 with non-standart roadwheels in Kubinka. It's absolutely production vehicles without any postwar or Kubinka modifications.

Yura, correct spare parts are digging up regularly.
If you (museum) want, you could wait and collect these details, waiting for achieving enough amount of them to make a good tank.

But now the "tank" is ready. What can change any detail if I get it and present to you? Smile
Will you disassemble the KV and rebuilt it?

As i can see, from your side - better to do nothing and talks something in Caesar pose. It's nice position, always batter to sit at the table and talk with clever face "it's all incorrect, i know all!". But it's impossible from Poklonnaya Hill side, so, in this situation better to make late LKZ 1941 dated hull from spare parts than send spare parts to scrapyard. Anyway, we have plans making in future correct KV-1S hull and KV-1 turret. It's still separate exhibits (turret and hull).

Nobody is perfect, Kolya ;p

Museum have plans to make hull for KV-1S turret. In fact, only KV-1 remains been found, serial number 5005, LKZ, august 1941 dated tank. Nose part of hull, and few parts of rear plate. For rebuilding used IS-2 & IS-3 surension, wheels and tracks, it's ok for 1942 dated tank. On the finish line museum have not bad reproduction KV-1 hull, but for KV-1 turred budget is over, so, for current time we have KV-1 and KV-1S mixture. Also not rare version - 100 first KV-1S have same configuration.

Anyway, it's ok as a static monument.

In Polish Army Museum is a hull of KV-1 in storage area.

If the Victory Park didn't use the hull of C7P for reconstruction of T-26 a exchange could be possible. Now I think is to late.
