looks like the Pontiac GTO-R is in a whole different racing class..."Rolex" series as opposed to the GS series....plus it's a tube-frame thing and not the real chassis like the 'Stang

Great....just like Winston Cup (the "NASCAR" term is not justified)...another "cookie cutter" spec racer with no functional resemblence to the vehicle on which it is ostensibly based.

Kudos to those doing the production-based racing series'!

Welll.........ok.........damn I gotta come clean here....been keeping a secret up 'till now...but there's a reason!!

Back in May I broke down and ordered on of these new Mustangs, a GT. I didn't wanna say anythign about it because heck......the wait is HORRENDOUS and I wasn't really sure how it would pan out. In most places of the country except maybe So Cal, these things are HARD to find and dealers that have 'em are asking like 5K or more above MSRP...and we don't play that game! So if ya wanna pay a reasonable price (MSRP or less if you can swing it) you gotta order...and wait....and drool.....and wait.......and dream......

It all started when my beloved wife got the idea that my faithful '95 Chevy 1/2 ton was headed for the graveyard (LOL I shoudn't have let her see the interior). So anyway after spending a weekend checking out cars (she wanted me to get "a little stoopy car"....yes she actually said that!).....we ended up looking at nicer and nicer stuff including a '05 Pontiac GTO (VERY MEAN MACHINE) but a bit too rich for me....she then brings up the '05 Mustangs and I'm like rolling with delerium if you read my post earlier about how much I've been eyeing 'em.......so to make a long story short, we're both old-school gearhead types (you should have seen her handle the 400HP GTO...she's amazing with a stick! :D) and a V8 and 5-speed manual was the only way to go, so I ordered me up one of these bad ol' things and have been VERY sidetracked reading all the owner feedback, tracking it through it's build date and delivery, etc...and well, anyway it's finally here!

I feel a little guilty, but the lil'woman says after 10 years of grinding gears in my pickup truck (which we're keeping, BTW, WOOHOO!) and 16 years of marriage and providing for everyone else, it's totally cool. Heck I still can't believe it's sitting in my garage either......I have to finish writing this so I can go out there and caress it, sit in it, and play with the 256-color dash-light-thingy some more...

Here she be......the color is "Mineral Grey" which is pretty slick, it kinda changes hues with the light and makes an EXCELLENT base color for a JG300 camo color scheme like the CFS3 FW190 I think......plus it's not available in '06 models so it assured me I'd get one of the last '05's and not have my order delayed for an '06! Cool

Dang I gotta cut down on the Carnitas and rice I guess!!!!!

Post subject: Re: Not a P-51D, but still a fine Mustang...

Thanks Hoppa, and CrashEd! Nice vehicles there Hoppa!!!!!

Truth be told, I'm also a Chevy/GM fan and believe me, although this thing is nice (too nice) it was still very hard to park my faithful Chevy pickup by the curb in front of the house last night. Although my first car was a Mustang, I haven't owned a Ford product since - if you don't count the wife's cars - and two Fiat X/1-9's and two Chevy's have lasted me just fine up until now. Although the other Chevy was a '85 Camaro that was pretty much a plastic POS compared to everything else....and the two Fiat's actually were outstandingly reliable, go figure! I also had a short whirl with a seriously beaten '69 Olds Cutlass with a big block and a 4-speed for a while too, but it was a $500 beater car that I shoulda kept if I were smart. If this machine lasts as long on average as most of those vehicles I'll be looking at 10+ years of driving in it as long as I can put gas in the thing.

As for the color, yup I dig it, I didn't want to stand out too much since this thing is easily capable of getting one into trouble. Although I admit I really enjoy the feel of puttering along with all that potential grunt under the hood, laying back, watching others act like idiots and just knowing I could brush 'em aside.

And it's also kind of a tribute to another Mustang from my past. Back in the day, when I was slaving away on my '66 Fastback swapping motors, bolting on every cheap speed part, laying under the car wrenching away and getting my long 70's hippie hair soaked in auto trans fluid and bugs, and doing all the other typical greasy kid stuff, there was a FINE '66 Fastback in my town that had a 351 Windsor stuffed in it with a 4-speed toploader trans and 4.11 gears...nothing in town could touch that thing...and it was about this same shade of grey. So, it's also a salute to that particularly fine machine, which was something my own '66 never quite matched (although, it wasn't too slow either!) and I'll admit it's pretty cool to have a machine that matches up to what you tried to build back in the day... with a warranty and roadside assistance even, 'cuz my days of washing ATF and power steering fluid out of my hair are definitely OVER and that's not the kind of "retro" I'm looking for, LOL!

And actually other than the wait, the thing wasn't that terribly expensive as far as new vehicles go....it was certainly less than the pickup truck we were considering to replace my beloved Chevy Cheyenne. Hope you get your house soon Hoppa, and then get one of these things to go with it!

S!

AAHHHH I Love the smell of New Ford interiors in the morning.......smells like......VICTORY!

"Grunttt....PPPooooTTT.......BBeeelllccch.......or is that Stoopy?

Congrats Stoopy!

I cant remember what I was watching the other day, think it was the NBC nightly news and they had the story of the head designer for the new Mustang. Very interesting and maybe Ascout knows more (didn't catch the whole story) but during the Vietnam war a well known race car driver took a couple of mustang fastbacks over there for the troops to gawk at and drive and a Young Vietnamese boy happened to witness the event and get to see the "American" Mustang which he fell in love with. That boy made it to the States after the war, and eventually became the head designer for the new "Stang" design.

(probably not doing the story justice, but you get the idea)

They also claim, or Ford Claims, that it is currently the hottest selling sportscar in America.

Ascout has definitely schooled us in that small tidbit of VN history...those were the "Lawman" Mustangs, with blown Boss 429 motors if I remember correctly. I'm positive there's some info posted about those cars by Ascout around here somewhere!

As for the smelll....would you believe it really does smell quite a bit - good new car smell....but it sure as heck fills up my garage with the scent. It's a good kinda "stank".

And the "grunt...poooOOOooot....BELCH"...LOL I just took a co-worker out for a lunch spin and that's one thing we agree on. This has nothing in common with any kinda pretty-looking horse at all. I almost object to the name "Mustang". It's definitely more like nasty, snarling, stanking Wild Sau!! LD

Stoopy....
ihateuihateuihateuihateuihateuihateuihateuihateuihateuihateuihateuihateuihateuihateuihateuihateuihateuihateuihateuihateuihateuihateu!

Well, I may assuage my hate by saying my wife, who doesn't care for the hard top version (which I luvs) may spring for a GT convertible. OK...it loses that cool hard top line with quarter windows ("it's too male, too musclecar!"...."Yeah...so?... you say that like it's a bad thing!") it is so SoCal and a ragtop is charming too. So, we'll see...first she has to buy and pay for a motorcycle so maybe that'll take some of the ugency out of the 'Stang.

Ya' know, Stoop, there IS a $4K blower kit available that makes 410 HP?

DUDE!!!!

Man, of all thiings it was the hardest to keep this a secret from my favorite ford-o-phile...hehe glad ya likes it!

I had to deal with the convertible question too, but man, as you know, a motorcycle is really the "ultimate convertible" anyway....and I think I'll be splitting communting duty with the bike to bring my average gas mileage figures up... Smile

I read about that blower kit but I promised myself NO mods. Good gravy, at 3/4 throttle this thing is already ridiculous in any kind of traffic. Although.....Hurst finally came out with a replacement shifter kit for it last month, and along with the shorter throw and smoother performance, I'm eyeing that taller chrome lever and classic white ball...OoooOOOOooooo.....it's only an hour's work to bolt in......but that's gonna be it!

Except for a little oval "SoCal Speed Shop" sticker I wanna put in the quarter window...because your'e exactly right...this thing is Soooo SoCal!

......but that's gonna be it!

Hope them Irish are taking good care of ya!

"Shift as hard as you want, but don't break your arm!" Yeah, the ol' white ball is even more cool that pistol grips or the "T-Handle"....one of those anti-rollback brake-lock buttons is always a cool accessory...and even useful if you go to the strip or have a of lot of hills.

Leave your pics up, please, so I can show the wife when I get home...

Been all over this island today...back in Maynooth...outside Dublin...all is well!

No sweat buddy...if there's anything else you'd like a picture of, interior, dash, motor, big ol' brake calipers, let me know and I'll oblige......

Hmmm...line-lock eh? (rubs chinny-chin-chin)......tempting.........wife already requested a T-Handle tho (yeah I know)......so I'm getting the right thread size and P/N from Hurst Tech Support so I can order it along with the shifter tomorrow...

She learned to drive a stick in a '67 GTO.....first thing she learned was how to do a big ol' smoky burnout.......drives a stick better than anyone else I've seen too, so I guess I'll oblige her and get her T-handle to swap in occasionally, that's part of the fun!

Good to here you're love'in the new pony, Stoopy. Hope the honeymoon lasts and lasts. The Mrs. and I picked ours up sometime around the beginning of April and just did the second oil change today.
We enjoy ours a great deal and it runs and performs fantastic. The only issues I have are those associated with those little gremlins that seem to come stock with any new model year car. First time gassing up we discovered that you had to let the fuel trickle in slowly. The gas pump would shut off every time the nozzle trigger was depressed fully. Apparently we weren't the only ones experiencing this; Ford had already heard about the issue when I contacted them, and a new fuel tank was ordered. It wasn't venting properly during fueling causing just enough backpressure to trigger the fuel pump auto stop. We were happy with the fast service we received from the dealership; had the car back to us the same day just after lunch and it hasn't been a problem since!

The only other issue turned out to be minor. Seems we Americans have a problem locking ourselves into the trunks of our cars I wasn't aware of. So, the nice folks at Ford supplied the 05 Mustangs with a handy-dandy inside trunk release. This little bugger has been causing an annoying rattle as it swings up against the trunk lid. Tap-tap-tap. . . . tap-tap-tap. . . . what the hell's that? lol Ford did place a small felt disk on the inside of the trunk lid near the release handle as a damper, but my particular trunk release apparently doesn't know its supposed-to-be (Sposta-be) using it. lol

All-in-all me and wifey (her more so than I, it being her car and all) are quite pleased with our mustang and I’m glad to hear the same at your end, Stoopy. We woulda had a GT too but we had to carry over some negative equity on a trade. My lease is up in another year on the Pacifica (Great car by the way). Then its my turn to shop. Thinks to meself - Wonder of I could shoehorn a 33% Extra into a 07 GT?

OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!!!

VERY Nice. I like the color. Great choice. I dang near got me a V6....am still wondering if I should have, what with gas prices. The V6's have plenty of pull to them as they are. The grass will always be greener on the other side anyways.......these are GREAT cars no matter how you cut it. They're very very SOLID feeling, that's what impresses me the most.

Yeah I've read up on some of the common problems and haven't had the fuel fill issue but am still buring thru my first tank of gas if you can believe that. Not enough time to drive the thing as much as I want. Glad to hear it was no problem to get it resolved tho.

I dig it dude!!!! Yeah the back seats fold down don't they, so you should be able to wedge a big wing and fuse in there somehow!!!!

Thanks, Stoopy.
Doubt you'll have the same fuel tank issue. It was most likely resolved before your car's production date.
