APG pictures from early '70
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

The M3 75mm GMC (tank destroyer) was traded to the Patton Museum many years ago.

It is currently in Richardson Motor Pool, awaiting to be transported to Ft Benning.

Are these possibly the original Italian markings? It had been donated by the Italian army just five years earlier (in 1967).

That little star on the plate let me believe it could be part of the original italian markings.

The Italian Army donated the M10, but never tried to get back such unique pieces like the 90/53, 47/32 and 149/40 SPGs... French, germans and czech obtained precious vehicles back from APG, italians never tried Sad

FYI, the German vehicles were merely loaned AFAIK, and most are now in Wheatcroft's hands (temporarily).

But perhaps they have special status since they are truly "spoils of war."

Loaning is okay for me. AFAIK Wheatcroft only has the Tiger. Sturmtiger is in Munster, Wirbelwind in Rendsburg, Möbelwagen in Sinsheim.

Schneider CA1 and Saint-Chamond in Saumur come from APG too. Same for Pz 35 in Lesany.

The italian tanks are "spoils of war" too. Actually the 149/40 was captured in Germany, since the germans took it over from Italy for evaluation after September 1943.

I am not blaming APG, I am blaming the Italian Army

Yeah, I guess the difference is sort of that the French, Czech and Italian pieces we're "second hand spoils" - first captured by the Germans, then the Americans.

I believe Wheatcroft also has the Ordnance Museum's GW PzKpfw II Wespe (formerly at the WTS Museum in Koblenz, Germany); PzJg II Marder II (formerly at the Auto & Technik Museum in Sinsheim, Germany); and PzKpfw II Ausf F.

Italian 90/53 was captured in Sicily, 47/32 in Tunisia, when Italy was fighting against the Allies. So they were both "first hand".

AFAIK French WW I tanks weren't spoils at all.

You are right about Marder II and Pz II F. As for the Wespe, P-O's PDF reports one in Munster. Was it moved to Wheatcroft?

Those are some nicely preserved pictures, look to be from transparencies which helps account for the nice color and sharpness (next best thing to digital, not available at the time). Great window into that middle-or-closer-to-WWII era for which we don't have as many nice pics available.

Is it the same kind as the Marine Corps used in WW2 with the French 75mm gun?

Digging into my 'treasure trove' of photos, here are a few shots I took of the M3 GMC

Yep. The National Museum of the Marine Corps has another one languishing in storage - hasnt seen the light of day since they closed the old MAGTF Museum a decade ago...

Then again, now all the Army museums (with the majority of the major collections in storage) are just like the Marine Corps...

I'm not sure which is the sadder sign of the times - US museums shutting their doors or the Royal Navy selling off its aircraft carriers...

well, here in France we will keep our museums and our single aircraft carrier, but the way it goes, it is possible that we will have less public hospitals in a near future, which is more worrying IMO...
