Ordnance code KOP
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Ordnance code KOP

I know this is sort of off-topic, but I figured someone here might know.
We just got a 20mm Ammo crate donated to the museum, the crate was made by the Dowagiac Steel Furnace Co in MI, the pack date is 10-44 and the lot number starts with KOP, does anyone know what MFG KOP was?

Post subject: Re: Ordnance code KOP

Chris,
KOP may have stood for Kingsbury Ordnance Plant. It existed in Kingsbury, Indiana from 1941-1945, and briefly, in 1951, to produce ordnance for the Korean War. If you do an online search you should find more information on this company. I used to work in Defense. Hamilton Technology Inc., later became Olin, then Bulova Technology, then privately owned, and lastly was sold to L3 and moved to Ohio. In the nearly 15 years I worked there, we were bought 5 times, and ran near bankrupcy twice. Not very stable industry! Take care, Rick
