Trip Report, April 2013
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Trip Report, April 2013

I made some stops to and from AMPS 2013 in Atlanta.

West Virginia
Clarksburg
M41 tank
www.google.com/mapmake...7238566284
It is in the fenced grounds of the armory, first building on the right. It was open during business hours. The serial was heavily painted but it looked like 5xx.

Princeton
M41 tank and unknown gun
www.google.com/mapmake...hyaw=26.18
It is actually across the street from the courthouse, in a parklet on the corner of W Main and N Walker Streets. SN is 3225.

Bluefield
M41 tank #1
www.google.com/mapmake...p&hyaw=315
This is the Bowen Field tank in the Register. It is SN 378.

M41 tank #2
www.google.com/mapmake...3546856521
This one I had on my map from the old geocaching site. It looks to be at an old armory or something. It is SN 2546.

North Carolina
Mount Airy
M47
www.google.com/mapmake...3546856521
The SN is 6753. An ex-Italian vehicle with turret gutters. Interestingly, I noticed that the small idler between the sprocket and last roadwheel has been removed and the mounting hole blanked off. I’ve found this on all my photos of “gutter” tanks. There is one (see below) without gutters that still has this idler.

South Carolina
Williamston
The armory has closed and the pad is empty. The park nearby has no tank. I did not explore anywhere else in the town.

Clemson
M42
Confirm location and SN.

Georgia
Lavonia
M60
Confirm location. SN is 1759 on tow lug. Records say this should be 9B5117.

Homer
M60
Confirm location. SN is 704 on tow lug and engine deck. Records say this should be 9B3813.

Duluth
M56 90mm SPAT
Confirm location. SN is 201 from modification plate inside right rear fender.
M60
Confirm location and SN. Stamped RN is 9B5074.

Barnesville
M4A3(76) HVSS
www.google.com/mapmake...p&hyaw=245
VFW at corner of Old 41 Hwy and VFW Rd. I got 33.09510N 84.18176 W. SN is 61312. Also M5 3-inch gun SN 1761.

Cordele
Confirm location.
M3A1, SN 7302.
M4A3(76) HVSS, SN is ?6004?, probably 6004x..
M47, SN appears to be 5xx0. No gutters on turret. No Italian mod plate, maintained small track idler.
LVTP-5
LVT-3C
Also M1A1 155mm gun, M1917/M1918 155mm howitzer, Soviet D-44 85mm gun, M1 57mm gun, M3A1 37mm gun, and Soviet 122mm mortar.

Calhoun
Confirm location.
M4A1, BN 381. Has a flamethrower mounted instead of a 75mm gun.
M60A3. I found SN 1855 on the lug and JJ068G on the engine deck. This pairing is correct according to records.
M114 #1 (near others) No cupola.
M114 #2 (in armory parking lot) No cupola.

Tennessee
Ooletewah/Collegedale (Ooletewah is closer and between park and Collegedale)
M48A5, confirm location and SN. It is also stamped JA00T2. Location is hard to get to; you must park in a business’ parking lot and walk about ¼ mile.

Knoxville
Sutherland Ave armory, confirm location.
M7B2
M42, SN 222
M59, appears to have been painted 12LC77.
M60, confirm SN 75.
M114

Jefferson City
M42, confirm location. BN 228, RN 4022822x

Morristown
Had old geocaching record for an M4A3(76) HVSS here but couldn’t find anything.

Rogersville
M4A3(76) HVSS, confirm location and SN 61056.

Kingsport
Armory closed, tank gone.
