ID Help
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: ID Help

An aquaintance has asked me to ID the Russian APC in the photo. I believe it to be a modified MTLB. Any Ideas?

The photo was taken in Antarctica in 1979.

It may be the MTLVB Arctic variant with .57m wide track for snow and improved flotation altho' I'm having a Devil of a time finding an image of this to confirm! Rolling Eyes

This is NOT a confirmed image but looks similar albeit the Track looks standard NOT the extra wide I've noted above (and seen on a Discovery programme on Siberian Tigers!)

MT-LBV The MT-LB can also be fitted with 565 mm wide tracks for operation in snow and swampy ground; it is then called the MT-LBV. This version has a ground pressure of 0.28 kg/cm{2}.

This definition would tend to indicate it's a category definition rather than a Type DEFINITION................
