Seaching for Foto - Sherman Tank - Turret M2 Being Fired
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Seaching for Foto - Sherman Tank - Turret M2 Being Fired
Hi!! I know a lot of you have great collections of books and photos so I am asking for help in finding a particular image. I am writing an Internet based history recalling the award of the Silver Star to Lt Philip L. Larimore who, in the second week of April 45, while assigned to the 3rd Inf Dv in Germany, went on a single tank rescue mission to aid a recon squad from his company. The award citiation states in part that he provide supressive fire against a vastly larger German force while standing on the back deck of a Sherman tank and firing the M2 machine gun. During this action, the squad was able to escape, Larimore was twice wounded, lost a leg and, as stated, won the Silver Star. The image of Audie Murphy from the movie To Hell and Back apparently is very similar to Larimore's exploit but ... can anyone please post an actual image showing either US forces firing turret mounted machine guns from the back deck or, at least at the ready to do so. The article will appear at a .org site, no fees involved and the image will be attributed to the sender. Any help out there?? Shocked
