Pictures from Full Militärmuseum
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

During the last year I've tried to improve the quality of my pictures, both by refining my skills and equipment. I think I am starting to see progress, here is a selection of shots I've took at Full last month:

Among other things you can see some prototypes from the Mowag collection, and a new Universal Carrier that just arrived in the museum, it's in pretty poor condition.

What was the function of the vertical bars affixed to the S Tank's bow?

I think it was supposed to detonated hollow charges before they reach the hull. But I am not 100% sure.

I added more shots, including many soft-skins:

I also created a dedicated set for the Mowag collection:

Yes it was supposed to detonate hollow charges and as secondary, affecting the trajectory of certain kinetic energy projectiles.

Those bars were "Top Secret" way into the early 90's, never to be fitted during peacetime. When Sweden was shopping for a new tank (the Leo 2 was selected) the red tape was lifted and most in the Swedish Army saw the "picket fence" for the first time.

I did my service when the testing for a new Swedish tank was conducted. We had a Leopard 2 and a M1A1 Abrams up for Arctic testing, boy were those boys in the crews "cocky". They had special "everything", new uniforms, special badges and a swagger to match. Three years later they tested T72:s (intended as a IFV support vehicle, IKV in Swedish), BMP1:s and MT-LB:s ... the T72 crews were called "Smurfs" because of their ... errr ... diminutive stature, this was a requirement as the inner spaces of the T72 are very cramped indeed. The MT-LB and BMP were selected as the Pbv401 and Pbv501 but the T72 was left out as the modifications needed to make it a "safe" work environment were to extensive (not to say impossible). The BMP:s were warehoused 10 years ago, were phased out in 2008 and sold to the Czech Republic. The MT-LB still soldiers on.
