The Aussies have made it a regular part of airshows. In fact I think it was part of the clsoing ceremonies for the Sydney Olympics. As I remember it as they shut down the torch an Fii streaked over and as it departed lextft a trail of fire as if the torch was leaving. I thought it would have been neat if when the torch arrived at Salt Lake in 2002 that an American F111 (They were for many years based at Mt Home AFB in Idaho would have done the reverse bringing the Olympic flame in. But they were retired before that.

The stunt is accomplished by dumping fuel through the dump valve which is faired between the engines. Then the AB is lit. It is believed that at least once a faulty dumop valve caused the flame to actualy catch the airplane aft end on fire (and I believe was suspected in at least one unexplained midair explosion. I was also told by an ex-F111 crewmember that it was considered the ultimate anti IR missle defense Shocked
