New to me ~ T-58
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

It had an ocsillating turret like the AMX-13. I think the hull was like the M-103.

You never got one of my Aberdeen tours Laughing . I'm pretty sure this was one of the tanks from the old Mile of Tanks that sat outside of 'The Warehouse' and were included on my tours. 120mm gun in an Oscillating turret. I believe the Oscillating turret allowed an autoloader. If it is one of the tanks I'm thinking of it is probably in storage at Ft Lee now Crying or Very sad

I believe the T-58 packed a 155mm (depicted in photo), and the T-57 sported a 120mm. I love the American experiment with oscillating turrets - very impressive looking beasts.

This was on the "mile of Tanks" years ago. I used to visit APG frequently prior to the 911 security crack down, they had vehicle displays everywhere. Does anyone know if the two T25 Medium Tanks that used to be located near the Main Front have made it to Ft. Lee? Rick Eshleman (new member)

Correct.

Also, the view pictured is lacking the rangefinder ears, as noted in Hunnicutt.

Bob is also correct in that it was designed to utilize a rotary autoloader.

There were a T54 and a T69 on the mile of tanks:

UID 734: T54E1, Maryland Boulevard, APG

UID 715: T69, Maryland Boulevard, APG

I don't know of any other 'oscillators' there.

Trevor,
Thanks for your help. Over the next several years I hope to get some of my old photos scanned and submitted to the forums here. I've been in "hibernation" since moving to Delaware 6 years ago, and prior 10 years starting a new life. I've checked out the link, very nice galleries there.
There were many around base displays and motor pools (which pre-911, could be accessed and photographed) and some examples I know of around base were: M108 105mm SPH, Russian PT76 Model 3 light tank, the two T25 Medium Tanks, M48C Medium Training tanks, M67 Flame Thrower Tank, etc. the list goes on.
Interesting that I found a donated (by Aberdeen) M48C Training Tank at the Port Deposit, MD VFW which is on display in the parking lot there (fair shape). They had a number of these at the M88 Armored Recovery training facility there. I've posted 4 old photos from my collection to start, and if they are approved should be seeing them in gallery soon. Thanks,
Rick Eshleman

Rick, we look forward to seeing your pictures.

My lists (so far) of tanks in the USA are here:

Preserved Tanks in the USA

For a less detailed but more complete list you should see Neil's USA Historical AFV register:

I have several pictures of two "occillators" from APG, but from the numbered filenames, I suspect these were taken not by myself but by a person who shall go un-named* in the region of the forbidden fence area where one keeps one's camera holstered. One has no junction cover on it at all, and the other has a badly rotted one on it.

*If this sounds like somebody here *ahem* and they can be shown, please to let me know.

Rick - Welcome aboard - You've got me stumped on the T-25s. I don't remember anyone at the museum ever mentioning them. I know about the M48 at Port Deposit, I've got some pictures of it if I can find which directory they are stored in (or even which computer :-)) I didn't know it was a C model. I know it has several penetrations and know it was 'rescued' from a range. There were also 2 T23s that were recovered from the ranges a couple years back (From looking at the plexiglass that replaced the gun mantlet I believe they were used as camera shelters) I'm not sure if they will be restored I was strongly advocating for that when I volunteered there.

Where are you in Delaware? I assume you know about the M3 Lee in Newark (serial #3)

I haven't updated my APG section yet, so I still have the T25/T26 tanks listed at APG, though some of the others you mention are new to me:

Solitary Vehicles at APG

Neil's photos are the most up to date.

Neil and Trevor,
Thanks for the photos and information. I will be going through my literally thousands of photos from APG, Ft. Indiantown Gap, PA, Churchville Proving Ground, MD (automotive test site for APG), AUSA Washington, DC, and also shots from Carlisle, PA USA Military History Institute, US National Archives, etc. I luckily saved all of my files and photos from years ago (1970s-1990s), but have them all boxed up here in Delaware. I used to live in Lancaster, PA and a long time ago worked in Defense Industry (had a clearance) hopr some of the items I post are useful and interesting. Take care,
Rick
