"New" Ordnance Museum Data Plates #2 Other German Vehicles
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

hello,

do these plates belong to surviving vehicles? If so, it would help to know the SNs of the vehicles that are part of the collection, because some numbers can be read quite easily.

For the Hummel and Wespe, theoretically yes - since the museum was only known to have one of each. For others its more difficult. For example the museum has/had two StuH 42s - so which one has the above number?

I'll double check against my spreadsheet and post more later.

Neil, Thanks for sharing the info. Has the Museum moved files and photos to Ft. Lee yet? I did some research in the little archives "room" at Aberdeen years ago, after Dan O'Brian was gone. Col. Jarrett was the curator prior to O'Brian, and his collection is in Carlisle thus where I got most older APG photos. Rick

Uh - The one you have marked Hummel appears to have 7.5 Stu written on the tag. As I remember it a Hummel is a 150mm (15 cm)

Thus either a Stug, or maybe an Sdkfz251/9 or /22?

Good point, but the actual plate (with holes in it) says Hummel...

Interesting revelation about the Hummel data plate - it is from a _second_ Hummel.

Here is the data plate for the museum's Hummel: SN 320180

And here is the "new" Hummel data plate: SN 32049x (hole in the plate)

I wonder if these plates were given away because they were from scrapped vehicles? Or perhaps taken from destroyed vehicles on the battlefield?

Neil

Matching more chassis numbers against info from Panzer Profiles:

StuG chassis numbers 92375, 107530 and 1077550 matches Ausf Gs like the plates say, any of which could match FMAR267. Similarly, StuH 42s were built on Ausf G chassis, so chassis number 107578 could be a match.

Finally, chassis number 32118 matches a Wespe. Hard to know whether this is the museum's Wespe or not...
