Quite a surprising number.

In addition, at least two were sunk by their own circular running torpedoes.

A whole series of warships than went "poof....gone". In numerous cases, with no idea even where they are*, let alone what happened.

*Beyond, largely, their patrol area or routes to and from.


Obviously, this is true of other large combatant submarine-operating nations. Not something much heard of with surface vessels.
