Who could help with a Sherman located in South Africa?
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Hello sir, I work at the museum. I can help you out but where would I find the serial number? I know, it's crazy I work there an don't even know this.

Hello Steve,

thanks for your message. Bruce Clarck already contacted me and said that you could for sure help us, so I would have had sent you an email this afternoon. The Sherman Firefly composite was either manufactured by ALCO or Chrysler, so you could have a look to both rear tow lugs, to see if any SN is stamped on it. I'm sure you will find one, and if you can't, that means there is too much paint on them :

The other possibility is to look inside to see if there is still the manufacturer's dataplate, located just on the left side, in the driver's compartment, below the instruments panel :

Thanks for any help.

Pierre-Olivier

Edit : I've indicated to look to the left side tow lug only, before having edited the post above. Please look to both rear tow lugs.

thanks

Pierre-Olivier
