Old APG slides converted to digital photos
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Hi All,
I didn't shoot too many slides years ago, but these are from around 1983 at Aberdeen. Three views of M60 driver training tank. Rick

For all the driver training vehicles that seem to have been designed and built, I have yet to hear any tanker saying that they used any such thing (M1 tankers and their simulator shacks notwithstanding). I trained on M48's in '71 and apart from one indoor cutaway to learn startup and shut down sequences on, as well as control/switch gauge placement (it didn't actually do anything) all our training was on the actual item. Same for Sheridans.

Doug,
The M60 Trainer sat in back of the Ordnance Schools garages for many years. Mostly as it sets in the photos (ladder on it) and I don't know if or how it was used. Anyone ever use one of them? Rick

Here's 3 more photos from that day. Photo 18 shows 2 of the 5 M48C "Training Tank Only" vehicles dragged around the M88 ARV Range. If Aberdeen were ever to do like Ft. Knox and allow people on the Ranges, this would be a good starting point there. It is very messy there lots of frogs and plenty of mud, definately a drought project. Rick

Our first experience in AIT at actually driving was to be transported to a driving range to which the AIT staff had already moved the vehicles (parked in a line with generous spacing between them Wink ). We did not take a drivable vehicle ourselves out of the motor park (Potts) to the range until after a couple of days of experience in wide open spaces (wise decision, we could do less damage that way).
