Hey guys! Look what Italeri is releasing in May-AS 42 Sahari
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Hi Guys-
Go to the Perth Military Modelling site:
www.perthmilitarymodel...s/newf.htm
Click on "New kit news" and then Italeri and you'll see the following:
Camionetta AS 42 Sahariana with resin/PE (May)
Just letting you know-

Hi Geoff! Let's just hope their price scheme has improved since the Autoblinda! I still haven't picked that one up, the price is absurd for Italeri!
IMHO, of course!

Best,
David

Damn, I want one of those! Probably my favourite WW2 vehicle. I've even contemplated scratchbuilding one, but my skills wouldn't be up to it. Now if we can just get an affordable Mk VI Light Tank and a Marmon-Herrington Mk II...

The only problem I have with the Sahariana is the "domino effect". That is, for 30 years now I've stayed away from vehicles used in the North African campaign (okay, so I did get an Italeri Crusader III as a gift from a friend Smile ). Anyway, my point is that the Sahariana is a beautiful vehicle and I've always liked it even more than the Autoblinda. So, if I buy the Sahariana, I'll end up buying the Autoblinda and then, probably Tamiya's old chevy LRDG and then, some sort of German armored car. This is like treading in quicksand, one purchase would lead to another and another and another.....

Have any of you guys ever had this happen to you? Your favorite vehicle in a campaign is released as a model and then you find yourself buying more models from the same campaign to suppliment it?

Best,
David

Hey Guys, I just found some stats for the Sahariana:

Weight-- Approximately 4 tons.
Length-- 5.75 meters
Width-- 2.15 meters
Height-- 1.85 meters
Engine-- 6 cylinder SPA
Max Speed cross country--30 Km/hr.
Max Climb--30%
Fuel capacity-- 400 liters
Reserve Jerry Cans--400 liters
Range--800 kilometers
Crew--2-4, depending on mission.

I found these in "Museum Ordnance" March 1995 issue, page 30.
Gee, that was a great magazine, sorry it folded.

Best,
David

*sheepishly raising my hand* That would be me. I used to build anything that caught my eye, years ago. For economic and storage reasons, I'd pretty much sworn off of anthing but modern armor-type stuff. Then Dragon started cranking out these lovely new German kits...and Bob's-your-uncle, I've got a new wing in the storage stash, full of German tanks, half-tracks and flak guns. And now I've got a Pz4 on the bench, with a Tiger on deck.

(Which brought me to the Tiger question I posted above!)

Cheers,
Chuck 'don't-let-my-wife-see-this'

Post subject: AS 42 Sahariana

Hi Guys-
Looking at the Italeri AS 42 Sahariana at the Nuremberg toy fair, I see it has one AA gun mounted in the display kit and what looks like an anti-tank gun sitting in front of the kit. Interesting, looks like we'll be getting a choice of armament.
Bye for now-

MMM nice and about time too!-but the photos that i have seen show that the tyres are not desert-type??,not a real problem as both SB models(UK) & HUSSAR produce resin sets.
Smile cheers

I too have been influenced by certain models coming out and then having it cause a snowball effect on buying. Happens when I read books too. I've stopped buying kits due to storage, unless it's from a manufacturer who makes an interesting (and small) kit and I want to see what quality they have (and I can't find an online review).

I was tempted by the AB41 and even more so by the Sahariana. But then I look at these large moving boxes full of kits and that cures me.
