Heller 1/35 scael Dora railgun
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Hi Guys-
Can you believe this!!!!!!?

At the above links, you'll see pictures of what is supposed to be a Heller 1/35 scale Dora railgun. Can this be possible? There seems to be some confusion over on Track link's forum where I found the links. I find this very hard to believe, but hey its a fun thought!

If my memory serves me right I've seen one of these next to a German WW2 bunker in France in the Normandy area.

I'll do a search see if I can turn up something about it.

Fled, the one in Normandy is Dora's little brother, the 28cm K5 railway gun. Dora was an 80cm gun, notice the Sherman alongside the model for scale. Only one or perhaps two of these monster guns were completed. It ran on a specially laid section of dual track, took weeks to assemble and set up for firing, and required a crew of something like 1700 men.
It's primary combat service was the bombardment of Sevastopol during the 1942 seige.

I beleive the gun in Normandy was featured some years ago in an issue of "After the Battle" magazine. IIRC, it was recovered from an ordnance depot in Southern France where it had been in storage since shortly after the end of the war. It was partly disassembled, moved to the museum grounds, reassembled, and at least cosmetically restored for display.

Esoteric and obscure artillery is something of a hobby with me.

Hi Folks!

Heller kit?

I remember photos showing up on the internet two, possible three years ago of a 1/35 scale Dora that somebody in Europe had scratch build.

When I saw those photos, I just figured it was that model from a few years ago.

I don't know about that one being a kit by anyone.

Its been awhile since I toured the Normandy region (1977 !?). I guess I need to get back there and see all the sights that seem to have been set up since.

( damn,....more items added to the 'TO DO' list....)

Hey Geoff! Hi Folks!

Drop by PMMS and check the new kits page for a new model company by the name of "Modelers-Paradise Ltd, Co.

Everything one needs to know in order to buy one of those Dora railgun kits. Smile

To rich for my blood and besides the wife would kill me if I payed that much for a model. Sad

For anyone building one of those, one would also have to build a scale model of the eastern front in the back yard. Wink
