Question on the M151 A2 TOW system
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Question on the M151 A2 TOW system

How stable was the M151A2 TOW during the firing of a TOW ATGM ?

Has any country ever mounted the TOW on a Land Rover ?

Yes - One can probably deduce why I asked above-mentioned questions - kitbash I'm considering Wink

Thanks in advance

Dirk

PS - It was good luck that I answered the AFV Quiz correctly - downloaded that particular Austrian M60A3 photo from the official Austrian Army website. Personally do not know that much on tanks - but I think I'm in at the right place to learn from the Experts Mr. Green

Hi Dirk!

It is very stable. Firing the TOW is just like firing a recoilless rifle. You have back blast to watch out for and because the TOW is a missle, there is no recoil force placed on the carrrier. When the missile motor fires, the only thing it has to push against is the rear cap on the shipping/launch tube.

As for a Landrover, not sure, but I think the Brit's wouldn't have done that because they have their own ATGM. I don't think they bought the TOW system.

My 2 cents,
Sgt, Scouts Out!

Dirk,
I know where you're coming from as far being in the right place to learn from the experts. I have learned so much on this forum. Yet I'm still just a "Novice" about many and most subjects discussed here. If you have an armored question, or anything military, this is the place to be!!!

Dirk,
I was hoping it would take a little longer for folks to ID the tank. The pitfalls of using an internet photo that others can access. Good job. Your prize...... well, take comfort in getting even for Doug and Jeff when I sorta exposed his Plastic 1:1 scale AFV's at Irwin. Karma, it's a beautiful thing. If I ever get my hands on a scanner.
I believe did see someone put a TOW on a Rover but not the Brits, the Land Rover is a pretty popular system. Might be a former Commonwealth Nation. Memory fails me. It's not a tank so maybe that's why.
