The History Channel Strikes Again!
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: The History Channel Strikes Again!

Hi Folks!

The following is a bit off topic:
While sleeping yesterday (I work the midnight shift and sleep during the day) I had the TV set to the history channel. One of the shows was covering WW II U.S. Infantry weapons. While covering the M1911 45 cal pistol, the narrator said the magazine held NINE rounds. Surprised

I guess back in WW II, the magazine was bigger or the rounds where a little bit smaller than their where during my time (1964-1987).

Armor Content! Mr. Green
One show was titled "Tankers". Mr. Green
I tried to stay awake for that one, but failed. Sad

A number of M2 Combat Cars and Medium Tanks moving about. M3 Scout Cars moving cross country. Looked like a rough ride. Some color shots of post-Normandy landing(?) two tone Shermans. One sub-subject that surpised me some was coverage of the three Marine tank battalions on Iwo Jima (Sp-?). Very few books have ever reported that. Maybe the folks over at the History Channel have taken the time to read some of the books that had been written by a couple of our missing board members.

There was one other thing that surpised me. I don't remember reading this info before (maybe a case of C.R.S.). In one of the shots of the beach there was a Sherman FLAIL tank that looked like it may have been stuck about half way up that embankment from the water line. I know it was on Iwo Jima (Sp-?) because there is NO PLACE that looks like Iwo.

I think I just might have to order a copy of that show. Confused

Silly Spot Report!

Roy

I watched the 'Color of War' series on History Channel yesterday. Alot of film footage in ETO & Pacific.

Pretty good series of shows.

They were also wrong about the dates. I was still carrying an M1911A1 (as an active duty armor officer) into 1991. We didn't get M9 9mm pistols until we deployed to Saudi Arabia.

Hi Folks!

Sometimes I get the feeling that it would be better to turn the sound off and just watch the pictures!
