OT: Basic Combat Training and pugil sticks.
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Just stumbled on this cute story, if you ever served and this was part of your training. I'll just link to it since it's posted in the "Officers Club" here at Com-Central:

Funny how even crusty NCO's occasionally learn something new, eh? Funny story.

Coincidentally, it points out the surprising skills and talents that America's soldiers bring to their service. My guys never cease to surprise me with the things they know and are able to do. It's actually one of the really fun things that make up for the crap leaders have to put up with.

We had one CA Specialist who wound up standing on a street outside a bank in Iraq (Baquoba, I think), chatting with an older Iraqi gentleman...in reasonably fluent Russian! The Iraqi was a former MiG pilot who trained in Russia, and the Specialist had been a Russian linguist in the mid-80's. Halfaway around the world, to use a skill that no one suspected would be useful...

a funny i know of is:
a wife of a navy pilot had inquired about an increase in their monthly allotment for living quarters. she received the following reply-- "class Q allotments are based upon the number of dependents, up to a maximum of three. if the birth of a child will mean your husband is entitled to more quarters allowance, please notify him to take the necessary action required".

or the chief who was explaining to the squadron the new program the DoD was implementing to help eradicate illiteracy, improve linguistics, and enhance communication and interpersonal skills. when chief asked what they thought about that, the squadron replied "hoooahh!"
